Hello fellow Sisters!!

I have now joined your ranks!! I am 50 and I am scheduled to have a total laterial abdominal hysterectomy on 9/30. I am not really scared. I have given birth 5 tims, 2 of which were c-secs, and 3 abdominal surgeries. I am well prepared for the post op pain.

What I didn't know or had never heard of is this. My Dr said I will never again be able to lift over 30 lbs, to avoid causing damage to the tacked up areas. Has anyone ever heard of this before? My mom had a hysterectomy that left her overies at age 35 and has to go back in 4 times to have her bladder tacked. So maybe there is something to it, since she never had any restriction after the 6 week recup.

Hello fellow Sisters!!

Patty,

The permanent lifting restriction isn't typical, but it can be advised depending on the patient. I would do what your doctor advises, or perhaps seek a second opinion if you have to do heavy lifting depending on your occupation.

My mother and her sister had hysterectomies over 30 years ago and never had to have their bladders tacked. They have always done heavy lifting around the house and yard.

bladder tack? oh help

Okay, I was sooooo glad to find this site. Have been reading a lot and visiting the posts here daily. Asked my ob/gyn a long list of questions (all that came to mind), but never once did I stop to wonder what fills in the space that's left when everything comes out. Please would some of you fill us in on the bladder tacking business? i guess it's to keep your bladder in place after a hysterectomy? Is it common to have bladder problems after a hysterectomy? Are permanent lifting restrictions common? I've been an active girl, and hadn't planned on giving up fairly heavy lifting for good (boxes, furniture, yard stuff---all the usual).

Now I find one more thing to worry about pre-castle!
