scheduled 10-7 for hyst
I am scheduled for my hyst on Oct 7. I have cried off and on since scheduling. I can't seem to get a handle on it. It was my decision too. I am petrified to death of being put to sleep that I WILL die!!!!! and that really scares me. I don't want my ex to get my kids and neither do they!!!!! I don't feel bad as far as not being able to have any more children because I have a boy and a girl and love them dearly. Maybe it's because I feel like I am going in this alone (no hubby to hold my hand -- although I don't want my ex anywhere around me).I don't know. All I know is I AM SCARED!!!!! I know I will feel much better when this is over. This month I have cramped all month and really feel like I am PMS-ing the whole time, too. I guess I needed to vent. Anyone else feel like this??? Thanks for listening.

scheduled 10-7 for hyst
I was terrified of surgery also, and also afraid of dying. Had my surgery on August 26, and everything went fine. I told my doctor I was afraid, and also told the anesthesiologist. They were very kind, and helped me to relax. Also, the surgery nurses were awesome, and one held my hand and talked to me as I was being put under. So, don't be afraid to tell the people who can help you feel a little less anxious. I am two and a half weeks post op, and feel so much better than before that I can't possibly describe it. Good wishes to you.

I agree, I too was / is very anxious. I'm going to the castle on 9/12. I went today to finish my "castle reservations" and the admitting nurse told me that everyone there is there for a reason, and that one of their jobs is to make the patient as comfortable as possible, even if it means holding your hand, talking to you about your fears, etc.. Who will be going with you to the castle? Please, talk to them! Don't be afraid...... to be afraid.. It helps to tell people. Even though we are adults, we still have emotions and feelings and need comforting! Good luck to you.

I know how you feel!
I have been having frequent dreams about dying, which is awful---I've had multiple surgeries before, but this is the first since the birth of my daughter & it changes everything. I think it can be harder when you're a nurse, because 1. you're more aware of all that can go wrong, and 2. a lot of people (doctors, nurses and family) don't expect you to be afraid, because, for heaven's sake, your a nurse . Tell your doctor how you're feeling. You might be surprised to find some support there. Do you have a good friend to go to the hospital with you?
A big and best of luck, keep us posted.

scheduled 10-7 for hyst
I know how you feel. I just had my hyster on 8/27. I scheduled it in May and prior to the surgery I wasn't affraid of dying I wanted to die. I can only tell you that you need a good therapist (preferrably female) that can begin talking to you NOW about the grief process and loss this brings and like someone else told you you are a nurse tell the doctor how you are feeling. If you are having the surgery at your hospital or one where you know a pre-op or OR nurse ask them to be with you until you go under. You have two children you love dearly and that's is worth living for. I unfortnately had no children so I had to dig a little deeper for something to live for. I just found this site (thanks to my therapist) and it has been a GOD send. I would also suggest that before your surgery you meet with an atty to get your affairs in order regarding guardianship of your children should you be unable to care for them. Putting things into place gives us back some control becuse this is a process we have no control over that's why it feels so ****ed bad. Best of luck to you.
Think pleasant/positive thoughts when going from pre-op to the the OR it will ease the anxiety.
Hug and Prayers, Marlynne

(((((((ernurse))))))))))
Hi,
I want you to know that you're not alone in your fears. I think we are ALL afraid about the anestheia, the operating procedure, the whole thing. I know I am. Please remember that these people (operating room staff) do this all day long, which gives them lots of experience (a VERY good thing!).
I am having my TAH/BSO on Thursday (9/12) and I am afraid, too. Sometimes, I think, we just have to let go and show up. That's how I see it. We need this surgery and if we can just try to trust that the operating room staff is qualified and skilled at what they do, I think it may help us. Hard to do, I know, but that's the direction I'm trying to go as the hours count down for me.
You're in my thoughts and my prayers, ernurse. It's going to be okay.
BIG hugs, Gracie
