laparoscopy questions
I am 8 weeks out from a tah. I am still having alot of pain and was getting no where with the dr that performed the surgery. At about 4 weeks out I found a new dr. and he seems to thing that the other dr did not do a good job. So anyway I am going in on Fri the 20 to have this all taken care of. What is the recovery time going to be like? Are there the same restrictions as a hyster? I do not know what to expect so any information would be helpful.

laparoscopy questions
Hi there did this dr tell you what he thought the other dr did wrong or what he's going to be looking for or doing while he does your scope??
All I can do is share my experience of a scope with you, they can vary in length and what gets done depending on what they say or have planned for while they're in there.
They usually make an incision in your belly button and another one just at your hair line.....then they inflate your tummy with carbon dioxide so they can see everything in there easier.....they use the belly button incision to put the actual scope with the camera in and then use the other incision for instruments and what not, sometimes depending on what they're doing they will also make a 3rd or 4th tiny incision on the side if they need it, these are usually only about a mm in size and heal without stitches.
Depending on what they do the recovery time is about 10 days to 2wks but you are up and walking around that day and may experience some gas and discomfort from whatever is done inside but it is much much easier in recovery then an abdominal hyst!
You should call your doc's office and ask them to give you some more details on what your procedure will be like I would hate to tell you something wrong and they really should be informing you of what they will do !!!
Best of luck with your procedure!! 's!

laparoscopy questions
s to you carla. I've had 4 laps and for each one, I was back in school within 4 days. You are up and walking the day of the surgery and the pain is minimial. I was given some pain killers to take and they worked great for me. I had no restricions at all, just to do things when I feel up to it. Depending on what they do, ex cutting or burning which I had done because of endo, it might be sore for a longer period of time.
Keep us informed hun, and we'll all be rooting for you. Good luck and take care.

laparoscopy questions
Carla,
I would definetly call the doctor back and get more details on exactly what he's going to be doing. You probably should also ask if it is going to require an overnight stay. Some scopes may be performed as day surgery, however your doctor may require you to stay overnight. When I had my right ovary removed the doc kept me in overnight. When I had my left ovary and fallopian tube removed I was sent home the same day.
Than when I had a cyst removed from my neck I assumed I would be going home and never bothered to ask. Well, surprise the doc wanted me to spend the night and I had to send dh home to get some essentials.
Good luck and do let us know how you're doing.

laparoscopy questions
I guess i did not mention what he was going to do.lol He is going to remove scar tissue and adhesions and a few cysts. My old dr tore into me rather then cutting which i found out after the hyster, and to make it worse he was the one who did my c-section about 3 years ago. My new dr was very upset about the other dr does surgery. I may need bladder repair to. He did not say anything about over night so I assume it will be done out patient. I already have the lap incisions because the old dr started the lavh and then went to tah. Thanks for your replies.

laparoscopy questions
well as you can see by your responses that it varies very much from patient to patient, doc to doc....procedure to procedure...your best bet is to call the doc's office with a list of your questions and get them all answered at once!!!
best of luck with your procedure!!

laparoscopy questions
Howdy!
Yes, I agree with other sisters. The prodecure, methods, docs, and what had to be done varies. From my experiences in the past, I had quite a few laps done. They are basically simple procedure, again that depends on what had to be done, you can generally go home the same day. I only took one day off from work then went to work the day after that. I had no problems.
It depends on you and how you handle it. I sure hope that this dr will do an excellent job in cleaning up the mess that your previous dr did. You should find out if you require an overnight stay. I never had to. I guess I won't give them a chance to do that. I much prefer to be home. They almost had me to stay overnight and I quickly found other arrangements so I would not have to stay.
