Post-Op-Four Weeks Incision Problems
Hi! I am new to this site. Actually, my husband found the site trying to learn more about the problems I've been having. My surgery was Aug. 26. I had a full abdominal hysterectomy. My incision is about 10 inches because I had 2 c-sections years earlier, and the Dr. tried to get rid of one of the scars.
I came home from the hospital the third day after surgery and was doing pretty good. I went back to the Dr. a week later to have my staples removed. They put tape over the incision and I came home fine.
A week later I had this horrible sore with puss with a black center. It busted during the night. I went to the doctor, he drained it and I have had to go back every day of the week since to have it drained. Today, he finally told me I don't have to come back for 2 weeks!!
The main problem now is crying!!! I cry all the time for no reason. Doc says it'll get better! Anyone have a similar experience?

Terri--
I'm sorry you have to go through all of this,
I had an infected hematoma under the incision.
It didn't burst on it's own, my gyn met me at the
urgent care dept, she attempted to drain it then,
not much success. I had to go every other day to
her office for about a week and a half, finally was
drained!
As for the crying, it was non-existant for me for the
first two weeks after the surgery, but then OH BOY!
I couldn't take hormones right away, but there are
other things that can help.
I was taking BellamineS to help with a few symptoms
until I could finally go on the patch.
Good luck...it does get better!

Post-Op-Four Weeks Incision Problems
Hi Terri,
You're going through a lot right now, and if I had to go to the DR every day I'd be crying too. My incision started to unzip and get a bit redder at the top (TAH Vertical incision) so I added another steri strip and put some Neosporin on it with a Telfa pad and some paper tape because I was worried about infection. That seemed to do the trick. Infection of the incision is certainly one of the things that can happen, but we don't need it on top of everythings else, do we? It sounds like your incision is under control.
I cried twice in the hospital and once at home. 1. I was on oral contraceptive for years right until the surgery and don't think my ovaries have kicked in yet (I'm 43 and should be to menopause yet). 2. Discomfort and lack of sleep makes our tolerance level lower and I got a nurse who scared me (meanie)!. 3. On the plus side, crying is a way to let out those emotions surrounding the trauma we just underwent. 4. I didn't think I would be emotional about this surgery and have been somewhat...surprise!
I am almost 3 weeks post-op and the urge to cry is greatly less. A BIG help has been this website and the support of Hyster Sisters. Hopefully as you see improvement and healing you will feel less like crying. You'll notice that a lot of the things that are happening to your body are also happening to others. You didn't say if you know your hormone status, but maybe that is a factor. I hope you have someone who can give you a hug if you need a good cry. If it just doesn't get better, insist that your DR figure out why and provide some help for you!!!
Keep in touch and let us all know how you are getting along.
Here's a big .
Though I am a health care provider, these are just my opinions. Please see your DR for medical advice.

Post-Op-Four Weeks Incision Problems
I'm sorry to hear you've had a rough recovery. My surgery was the day after yours (TAH) and so far no infections. About 2 weeks after surgery I had a bout with crying, moodiness, PMS (or whatever it was). I felt like part of it was due to the pain meds wearing off. Or it could have been that the ovaries hadn't kicked back in yet. When I went in for my 2 week checkup, DR said to wait and see how I was feeling on my next visit before he would do any testing. On week 4 now and my moods seem to be back to normal.
Give yourself some time. With all the extra pain and procedures you've had to go through, I'm sure you're feeling stressed out. Since your DH was so nice to find this website, maybe you can talk him into giving you a day of pampering (pedicure, back rub, etc.) Anything that will help you to relax. It really does get better.
Hang in there!
