Post-op symptoms
Hello Ladies,
I am recovering from my most recent surgery in which I had remnant ovary and endometriosis removed after my TAH/BSO last year. I am now in total surgical menopause. I thought I went into surgical menopause last year for a short period of time and my doctor put me on estrogen. I must say this is totally different. I am having drenching sweats and hot flashes and extemely uncomfortable. HRT is out of the question for me at this time and may be forever I don't know. That remians to be seen in 9 months or so.
For now I need some ideas on how to deal with my current symptoms.
I'm taking vitamin E/C/B/a multi vitamin and calcium. I must keep my immune system strong so that is an issue for me as well.
Any suggestions from those of you who have been dealing with this situation for a while?
I am checking out all the websites I can find. I'm looking for suggestions from those of you who have tried different things and have had them work.
I wear natural fibers of course and layer my clothing - have been doing that for a while anyway. The sweating is really the problem right now. I wake up up constantly at night and have similar sweats during the day as well.
Any suggestions are welcome. I will do nothing to risk having my endometriosis come back at this point. The surgery I just had was far too involved and severe to take any chances. Soooo
I will tough it out with whatever I need to do.
Thanks in advance.
Have a great day.

Post-op symptoms
Hi,
I am not on HRT and the anti-depressant Effexor has cut my hot flashes in half in both number and intensity. The dosage for hot flashes is 75 mg, half the dose for depression, so it really doesn't act as an anti-depressant, though I think it might have helped my anxiety.
Although there can be side-effects (dry mouth, decreased libido), they tend to go away after a few weeks.
I really recommend this - it made a big difference for me. Although I have not slept through the night, I am sleeping MUCH better. And it started working pretty quickly.
I am trying Remifemin (black cohosh) too but can't say whether it's doing anything.
Hope this helps,
Jennifer

I am taking a soy suppliment and calcium. This is the onul thing my Dr's will allow. The soy does help control the hot flashes for me. They are not gone but a bit more bearable.

Black cohosh works for me. I may be looking into a mild anit-anxiety/anit-depressant. I get a bit moody at times and I don't like myself when I feel that way even though I know it's a reaction to no estrogen. I'm giving myself a bit more time. Fish oil, EPO and Vit E are said to help with flashes as well.

Thanks Ladies,
I'm looking into all the things you mentioned. I addded flax seed/borage oil to my vitamins and a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement for joints because of my fibromyalgia and arthritis. I am in a great deal of pain with the fibromyalgia also right now. I think it's due to both the trauma of the surgery and the fact that I am estrogen depleted.
I see my doctor on Wednesday this week to discuss options. BUT I think she will probably ask ME what I want to do. Afterall there are not alot of options are there? This is definitley a situation to take change of and taylor it to your own body and lifestyle.
Please send your ideas and things that have worked for you. I can see this is going to be a real challenge. :-)
I appreciate all your help and support!!!
Have a great night.
God Bless
