Incision hurting - feels hard in spots

I had surgery on 9/23. I've been doing very well until today. I have had the constipation, etc, but nothing I couldn't handle. I did strain a little more than I should to go and now I may have another problem. Tonight where my incision is (horizontal - about six inches - had been stapled) is very sore and there are several areas that seem to be hard like a knot. Is this normal? What can I do? Do I need to contact the doctor? Please let me know

Hi Nana,
I really don't think it is any thing to worry about. You are very early in the stages of recovery. The hardness you are feeling is probablys swelling and tightness from the surgery. This takes time to go away. I wouldn't worry about it. Take it easy, and get a lot of rest.

Incision hurting - feels hard in spots

I had hard spots, soreness, and redness on the left side of my incision at 2 weeks and I called my doctor, who suggested I come in. Turned out I had an infection and had to take antibiotics for a week. Perhaps you should call your doctor just to make sure.

Incision hurting - feels hard in spots

As you can see from the answers above, no ones hard spots are the same. I too had a very hard area, right at my incision. My was just healing going on. No infection. But I did call and have mine checked just to be sure.
Is there any redness where the incision is sore? That can definately be a sign of an infection. I think you should give the doctor's office a call and let them decide whether to see you or not. I'd rather be safe, than to let something go too long.
Let us know what you find out.
Take care!

Thanks ladies for the advice. I called the doctor who said basically if it wasn't red and I didn't have a fever, it was probably just the incision healing. It is so much better today - very little pain and the swelling has gone done. There is no redness and I'm actually getting up alot better. I simply overdid it on Saturday - went to breakfast out and then to my daughters for dinner so I paid the price. The pillow police came after me and I just had to take it easy. I still rely so much on all of you for strength. Im at the getting bored being home stage now - but will not be doing back to work for three more weeks (November 4th).
