Lupron?

I've been reading posts on the board for a week now. I had been scheduled to have a thermal ablation to help with painful periods, but got on another bleeding/clotting jag. The dr. did an ultrasound and found a "large" fibroid. With all the posts I've seen about fibroids, mine doesn't sound quite so large, now - it's 10 cm. Last week I got a Lupron shot in the hopes of shrinking the fibroid enough to have a vaginal hysterectomy.

Has anyone had experience with Lupron? I understand that it will put me into a "chemical menopause" - not looking forward to that for the next three months. I'm going to have my surgery in December - date TBD once the dr. determines his Xmas vacation schedule....

Lupron?

Hi Connie,

Yes many, many girls have had the Lupron therapy. It works for some with few to no problems. Others have alot of problems. It is suppose to shrink endo and fibroids and slow or stop the bleeding. It's given to make surgery easier and to let you catch up with your red blood cells.

I've been offered it twice and so far turned it down. Use the search button up top and just type in Lupron. You will have plenty to read until someone tells you their personal experience with it.

I hope Lupron works well for you and you get your vaginal surgery in Dec.

Lupron?

Hello, I tried Lupron for 2 months. I don't want to scare you with my experience. Just remember that everyone is differerent. Some have good results. I for one did not. I never stopped bleeding the whole time. Sometimes it was worse then my periods. Clots and everything. right before I was scheduled to take the 3rd shot I started getting depressed. It is a side effect. Well Mine turned to wanting to hurt myself. I would look in the mirror and think "i hate you" I started pounding my self int he head with the brush and trying to pull my hair out. It was the weirdest thing. I knew it was hurting but inside it just didn't feel bad enough. Well this went on for about 2-3 days before I had a moment of clear head. I thought "you have got a problem girl" I called my doctor and he wanted to see me right then. He told me "NO MORE lupron" then gave me anti depressent. I took them for a couple of months. I'm off of them now too and feel pretty good mentally. I hope you the best of luck with what you decide. Just please keep your doctor informed of what and how you feel. Please don't beat yourself up like I did. I also had hot flashes, Very bad mood swings, and I could not sleep. I was tired but could not go to sleep. My prayers are with you in your decision.

Lupron

Hey there, Connie, I am a fellow Lupron user.....with a positive experience. Like you, I had a large fibroid that my gyn wanted to shrink before surgery. With my first shot of Lupron, I experienced a nagging headache for the first 3 days, my bleeding slowed, and I had more energy then I had had in months. In short, I was amazed. The second month on Lupron my bleeding had stopped, but because of size and location of fibroid, I had a constant discharge....sometimes tan, clear, pink, brown.....yuk! I had a little less energy, and I started to feel my fibroid getting bigger. I had just a few weeks on my third shot of Lupron before my surgery, and I was very tired and uncomfortable....it definitely was shrinking no longer. I did not have any other side effects....no hot flashes, mood swings(well, no more than usual!) or anything else. Everyone is different....keep track of how you feel, report any unmanagable changes to your doctor. Let us know how you are doing!
