Advice for TAH/BSO'S IN OUR 20'S???
Hi.. I had a TAH/BSO 9/9/02 and seem to be doing quite well with the normal annoyances.. however I am very reluctant to take the 1.25 of Premerin precribed to me after reading about it online... and due to the fact that I am not having any menopausal symptoms. Now.. I am 29 yrs old.. with 4 children ages 2,4,5, and 9.. Married.. my question is... when someone hears I have had this operation .. "YOU'RE SOOO YOUNG" .. WELL I didn't want or need any more children and my period sure didn't make me a woman( in my eyes) not having that is a blessing to me but.. I would like to hear from someone that had this done in their younger years and how it affected them.. or if anyone knows.. or if I am just listening to a bunch of old fashion women who think that you have lost all womanhood when this operation is done.. ( I personally think it's rediculous..

I understand!
Well, Karmen, I am 33 and everyone says the same thing to me..."oh, you're soooooo young "...I have to tell them that I WANTED this surgery, that I was ok with it because I didn't want anymore children either (I have 2 boys and a stepdaugter). I don't think that having a monthly cycle or the parts that cause it is what makes me a woman. Whether I had any children or not, I am me because of my personality, not because of what parts are inside me. I still have breasts and a vagina. My husband and I still have sex the way we did before the surgery ( last night was the first time since before surgery). I dare anyone to tell me I'm less of a woman because of this surgery....And if anyone tells you that then tell them what I just said. I know it seems harsh, but if they are judging you about something so personal, then why spare their feelings. They aren't the ones who had to suffer your tribulations. Sorry, to be so blunt. I guess this post hit a nerve in me because I can relate so much to your feelings on the subject...

Advice for TAH/BSO'S IN OUR 20'S???
I am certainly not in my 20's and actually not in my 30's any more either , but I certainly don't feel like I am less of a woman because of this surgery! I am just less of a mess because of it! No more constant bleeding or cysts to rupture. YEAH!
However as a nurse I have to admit when I hear of women having this surgery in their 20's and 30's I frequently say "YOU'RE SOOO YOUNG" . By that I mean that it is fairly unusual for someone of that age to need this surgery, not that it changes them in any way.
I am happy that you aren't having any menopausal symptoms. I can't say that I blame you for not wanting to take the premerin if you aren't having any symptoms. I probably wouldn't either. But after two weeks, I was having significant symptoms. I was more than happy to start on the vivelle (bio-identical hormone patch). You might want to do some reading in the hormone jungle and ask some questions there about the premerin.
I am happy you seem to be doing well.

Sorry...
Caren, Thanks for your insight into why some people may say "you're soooo young". I actually never thought of it that way, or that anyone might mean it that way. I guess when I posted the reply earlier to Karmen, I "spoke" before I thought....wow, how childish that was of me! My 11 yo son's dreaded "lost brain" disease must be rubbing off on me (He doesn't seem to think about anything before acting these days.) Again, thanks, for the different point of view.

Advice for TAH/BSO'S IN OUR 20'S???
hi
In 3 weeks I will be 31. I just had my TAH-BSO with a birch on Sept. 24th. I do not feel any less of a woman since I have had this done. In fact I feel more like a woman if anything. I can live my life without pain. I'm hoping for once in my life I will be able to enjoy sex. I knew 2 years ago I wanted the hysterectomy.
I also heard "oh, but your so young." I thought about what people were saying. Yes, I am young since the average age for a hyster is 45. I think they said that because what else do you say to a woman in their 20-30's besisdes I'm sorry. I think its a way for them to accept it themselves.
I too tell people I wanted this surgery. I had an alternative, it didn't work. This was my personal decision. I have had my children. I don't need a uterus to say I'm a woman. I have 2 healthy beautiful children.
I do know it is different for each person out there. I think it is easier to accept having a hysterectomy if it is not a life threatening situation.
My doctor put me on climara. I had no choice. I was having terrible hot flashes at the hospital to where I was getting nauseas from them every so often. also only being in my thirties I have a higher risk for osteoporosis if I don't take the estrogen. It runs in my family anyways. Now I feel wonderful. My headaches are going away. no hotflashes, I'm not near as tired either. Just remember that just because you are not having any symptoms now, doesn't mean you wont have any later. Your body is constantly changing.
Whatever you decide, good luck to you.

New princess at 25
Hi
I just had my LAVH Sept 30. I am 25. The first thing I hear when anyone finds out about my hyst is "oh your so young, you poor thing" I tell them, No, no no.. I am not a poor thing for having this surgery. It's the best thing that ever happened to me. I was a poor thing last month when my period hit and I was in bed for three days. I am lucky enough to have three children. I don't need constant pain and the heavy bleeding that goes along with having my uterus to feel like a women. I am so much more of a women now with it gone than I ever was when I had it. Now I will have a life

Advice for TAH/BSO'S IN OUR 20'S???
Well see.. I knew this site was great.. !!!! See I didn't so much have a problem with them saying that .. but I was just kind of wondering if they knew something I didn't.. ya know.. I'm feeling quite well except with my belly being a little sore to the touch.. but that is going away too..
I just thought maybe in weeks or months to come , even years , maybe it would help age me quicker or something(so I hear) . Because I am feeling so much better than before.. and yes I only had my surgery on 9/9/02 but DH and I have already had intercourse and I am happy to say it was intense and wonderfull!!!!!! Even better than before..
As far as the Premerin.. well I just have a problem taking meds when I don't seem to have an symptoms.. but maybe this is just ignorance..

YOU HAVE?!?!?!
My surgery was the same day as yours, and the doc said I had to wait until my checkup with him on 10/16 before....
I'm 32. I've also been so blessed with 4 children. MIL always wanted us to wait before having kids. Now I'm glad we didn't.
Yep, I'm "young" all things considered, but I'm happy I had the surgery done. AND, I beat my mom to menopause! ;-)
I've never had any symptoms of menopause, either. BUT, I started the HRT patch in the recovery room. It's a bioidentical, so I'm not too worried about taking it. And quite honestly, I'd rather head off any symptoms rather than suffer from them.

Advice for TAH/BSO'S IN OUR 20'S???
{{{{Hugs to you all}}}},
I had my hyst in May of this year at the age of 19. Every single person who has found out that I am 19 and have had a hyst has told me that I am too young. In fact, I've had people tell me off because of my age. My whole point of view on this, I am too young to live and be in pain. So, really, if you are okay with your decision, then its your point of view that really matters. As long as you are feeling good and are happy, you have my blessings!! Take care.
