Hello sisters!

I know this may sound like a silly question and all but I have never had staples before, and looking a them is painful enough!
But what I want to know is....how do they remove them and won't it hurt?? Especially since they are staying in longer than expected? I am diabetic and I guess the healing is taking a little longer than expected.
If anyone can help.....THanks!

I know what you mean...when I looked at mine, I got creeped out, too!

My DH watched the doc remove mine. They have a special tool that takes them right out, no pain at all. It crimps the staple in the center, and two ends come right up...honest, no pain. As a matter of fact, DH and doc were discussing great hotels in the area (Tampa, FL), and I'm lying there thinking 'hey, what about me!'

I agree, no pain during removal. The nurse said, "I'm going to remove the staples now." I felt something kinda cold, then "All done." I was like wow, it's over?

I can't tell you how staples feel having them removed, since I didn't have them. But I take them out in the ER all the time. The biggest majority of the time, the patients do not(not even the kids) complain of any pain when they are removed.

Good luck

I had staples with my c-sections and just like the other ladies have mentioned...not a whole lot to it. You just lie there and relax and they are out before you know it. I did have a couple that I felt a tiny tug when they came out but nothing major. Good luck and take care!

I was afraid of staples, too. But, I ended up with dissolving stitches & steri-strips. So, still have no personal experience with staples.

My husband had chest surgery in April & they used staples. When I expressed that I was creeped out about the whole idea, he said after having had various stitches over the years, and now staples, he MUCH preferred the staples. So, sounds like these other ladies are right on.

They do use a special tool which my dh brought home. He said if I did get staples that I could tell my gyn that I would be removing them myself! LOL!

Good luck to you,

Mongie

they have a staple remover they use and it wont hurt a bit. I have had staples on 4 different times and the last time was in may and it tug on a few of them but no pain and then. I felt so much better could actually zip up a pair of jeans that was a blessing also. You will do great you have already done the hard part. Remember we are here for you. Have a wonderful day and god bless you

Did not hurt a bit! My surgery was on Monday afternoon (23 Sep) staples came out on the morning of the 26th. I did have a drain tube above the stitches and when that thing came out I gave out a loud scream. Ouch!
