Concerning yeast infections

I seem to get so many yeast infections every year. If I kept track of all the Monistat I have bought I could of paid off my house by now! My doctor also put me on Diflucan. Once a week for a month. Your supposed to take one pill per month not per week.

Anyhow... If you have chronic problems with this as I do, have taken many tests that do not show anything, here is something my doctor did for me that I never knew about.

She asked me to bring in a stool sample. She handed me the bottle to take home and I just looked at her like she was crazy! She said that what could be happening is that I have loads of yeast all through my body and this is the only way to tell if it is. Well of course I was all for it. I cannot wait to hear the results. Now if this test comes back negative. I will scream!

Hugs,

Michelle

Concerning yeast infections

Hi Michelle Did your DR do vaginal and oral cultures? It's possible to identify the yeastie beasties under a microscope right in the office with a little swab, takes only a few minutes to do.

Are you taking a probiotic of any kind? The best way to discourage recurrent yeast infections is to take something like acidophilus capsules, or Probiotica, or AZO Yeast, or any "Probiotic" from the health food store, or eat a lot of yogurt (the kind that says "with live active cultures" on the label). It also helps if you limit your intake of sugar, since that's what the yeasts feed on.

Another thing to consider is that yeasts are notorious for becoming resistant to one treatment after a while... it's best to rotate what you use to get them under control, whether it be diflucan, or one of the monistats (they're not all the same, either, check the active ingredient).

Hope you get the yeastie beasties under control soon!

Concerning yeast infections

Hi Linda!

Thanks for the suggestions. I did try the acidophilus for a while but it did not seem to work. Maybe I did not take it long enough? My doctor did perform vaginal swabs and also what I call a plug test.. hehehe She took a metal instrument and pushed it into my vaginal skin. It took a nice size plug of skin. This way she got all the layers. The result was that it showed layer upon layer of yeast infection.

My doctor and I have been very aggressive with trying to find out what will cure this. I am a type 2 diabetic, have thyroid problems, fibromyalgia, and polycystic ovarian syndrome. All of these things combined plus my hormonal problem, is going to be tough to lick this until I get everything under control. I don't think I will ever accomplish this as there are too many issues. But if I can just have some of the vaginal pain to go away, I would be a happy camper!

Many hugs,

Michelle
