Birth Control as a HRT

I had a TAH/BSO on Sept 16/02. At the time of my surgery they gave me a "wonder" hormone shot that is to last four-six weeks. Because I am only 33 years old my specialist has suggested that I need some type of HRT. Since I have been on birth control since the age of 15 ( with the exception of 2 years for having my son) he feels that my birth control would be my best chance. I have had no problems since my sugery. ( no mood swings or sweats) Has anyone else used this method as their HRT, and did it work for them?

Birth Control as a HRT

Hi Terri, I have not tried it but have been tempted as I did really well on BCPs. There have been others who have. Do a search for posts by Gidge (in the hormone jungle) because I know she uses BCP for HRT. Or do a search for BCP as there have been posts about it before.

I know some people are concerned about the long term effects or BCPs but I guess that can apply to any HRT. There are also HRTs that are like BCPs, FemHRT and Activella. I tried Activella but did not notice it helping any more than the estrace that I am using.

You can give it a try and then switch if you don't think it is helping. Go to www.hormonejungle.com and read some of the info on the pull down menu. You can read up on all the options. Let us know how it is going.

Birth Control as a HRT

Terri,
I have heard of some women who have used birth control pills for their hrt. However, the estrogen content in bcps may be higher than you actually need. You may want to try other forms first and see how you do.

Do read the pull down menus with the link Sheri provided. You'll find alot of good information there, including a list of all your choices for hrt.
