sex stuff ?????
Hi
I am 6 weeks post op now. I seen my GP at 2weeks and she removed steri strips. Didn't do much else of and exam but thats just the GP and frankly I think she is terrible anyways.
But I see the doc who did my surger OCT 28th so that is 8 weeks post op for me. Is it okay for me to start to have sex with my husband now at 6 weeks or should I wait till 28th for the doc to examine me. I'd like to start swimming but with a kickboard doing laps to start too. Is that okay or should I wait. my appt is so long after my surgery. I feel good though.
I had sharp pain 2 times since my surgery. Once when I was moving a child on a chair at 3 weeks post op and the second was just last week when I was pushing a very heavy shopping cart. But I have lifted my child recently with no pain and have been doing almost normal activities with no pain.
I had an abdominal hysterectomy.
Thanks

I know it seems like a long time away, but you may be better off waiting until you've seen the DR for the all clear.

stitches
I had my 6 week check-up and my doctor asked me to hold off on sex for two more weeks because I still had stitches in my vagina that had not dissolved. I guess we have to wait so that the stitches don't rip out, or get infected. It seems you will be much better off in the long run if you put the sex off for just a couple more weeks until your doctor sees you and OKs it. You wouldn't want to set your recovery back now, after all this time. Hang in there, the waiting will be over soon.

I waited 9 weeks post op
When I went back for my 5 weeks post op, I still had a significant amount of stitches that had not healed yet, so he advised me to come back in 4 weeks for a 9 week post op and not to have sex until then.
I must admit, waiting was not that hard for me. I will be honest and say that I was a little apprehensive about sex with all the cutting up that was done inside of me and my cervix gone. I was not sure if it would hurt or if it DID NOT HURT, how different it would feel.
He also changed my hormore from Estrace to Estratest which has Testostrone. He said it would make me more aggressive sexually. I have been taking it a week tomorrow and I have not noticed any difference. But I imagine it is too soon.
My dh and I DID have sex for the first time since my surgery and it was not near as bad as I had imagined it to be. It still felt a little tender up near the top where most of the surgery would have been, but other than that, it was great to be that close again. It felt good and I know when the tenderness goes away, it will feel as good or better.
I waited, and if I were you, I would do as your doctor asked and wait. It's now less than 2 weeks. It will be worth the wait, I'm sure.
Hugs,
Terri

Definitely don't do anything until your DR takes a peek and gives you the green light.

Dear Princess,
Please, always consult your surgeon before going ahead with sex or other activities (get the ok from s/he first). You need to have an internal exam before sex, whether you had an abdominal or vaginal hysterectomy,to make sure all the sutures are ok and that those areas are healing properly, without any sore spots, or spots that aren't healing properly. I know we always get in a hurry to get on with our lives, but it's worth the wait, so the healing is far enough along to have reassurrance and comfort for those activities. Any questions you have before you go back for a checkup, be sure to call and ask the nurse (of the surgeon) or have her leave a message for the surgeon to return your call to answer questions (concerning when to resume sex, any pain issues or possible infections or concerns you have). God bless you, here's hoping your recovery is going well, without any major problems. Just take it easy and heal properly, ok? That's really important - no pushing shopping carts, or being on feet too long at a time, or lifting anything heavy at all, vacuuming or mopping. Easy does it - you'll heal better and without complications. Good luck.

this is my opinion;always get your medical opinions from a doctor
