6+ wks. post-op with clear seeping at incision site

After 6+ post-op weeks of being a dutiful princess, I went to hold up my swellybelly to dry the bikini line incision gently and noticed what appears to be a midline tear that's a tad red and weeping clear fluid. I called the surgeon and he instructed his nurse to tell me to come see him two days from now, on Thursday. I specifically asked whether to put anything on it and she said he was not overly concerned (no fever or pain) and left no other instructions for care of this problem. I'd last seen hom for a post-op check at 4 wks and he said my external incision was healing nicely and internally it would take several more weeks for the stitches to dissolve.
We are preparing to fly to the west coast for a wedding followed by a weeklong cruise to mexico on Friday morning. The surgeon said that I could go as long as I didn't lift anything heavier than my purse and did not try to exercise my abdominal muscles.
Now I'm afraid something pulled inside to cause a few stitches to rip apart outside. At this point in my recovery, I'd have thought I could not hurt the bikini incision outside.
Two days seems like forever, especially, as we are approaching the 11th hr. with travel plans
Has this happened to anyone else after 6 wks. of healing? Is seeping clear fluid normal at this stage?? I'm a tad crazed at the moment...Advice?

6+ wks. post-op with clear seeping at incision site

Hi

I am 6 weeks post op as well. In the center of my incision about an inch or 2 is a bit red and is leaking a clear sticky kind of fluid. I was going to go to the doctors but it seems to be getting better. I saw my doc at 2 weeks post op and she said i was healing nicely as well. I don't think anything has torn or pulled, it is just part of the healing process. I think it is just a bit irritated and it will get better.

I am going to buy a polysporin type cream to put on it after I clean and dry it. Just to prevent an infection or fight the bit of infection. If it gets really red and is leaking green or yellow pus then I'd go in and get checked out.

Hi Spiritdfilly,

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's not a part of the normal healing process to have a weepy wound this far along, so I'm very glad you've contacted your Dr.

I'm sure you're very anxious, especially with your travel plans so close at hand. I don't know if it will work, but maybe you could try calling your Drs'. office again, plead your case, and see if they can't squeeze your visit in sooner.

I suspect that everything will be ok. It may just be serous fluid leaking and hopefully it's just from below the incision line. However, I wouldn't put anything on it unless your Dr. directs you otherwise. Do try and keep it clean and dry in the meantime.

Let us know how you make out, ok?

Best wishes and s
