Pre-Surgery Fears?

What a roller-coaster ride this is...waiting for surgery! Does anyone else find they have a "fear of the day"? I'm thinking I should schedule them...Monday-incision; Tuesday-anesthesia; Wednesday-hormones...Thursday-finances...

I've definitely gotten over my fear of making this decision--symptoms the last couple of weeks have taken care of that--but now I'm scared I let this go on way too long. What can possibly be going on in there? It's amazing how hard I've tried to convince myself that feeling this way is just a variant of normal.

Thanks to everyone who posts here; you're keeping me sane! Best wishes for each of you!

Holly

TAH/RSO 10/17; lots of pelvic pressure & discomfort; backache, horrible GI symptoms; sl enlarged uterus; fibroids; would love to be able to sit and walk again without pain!

Fears

Holly,
Here is a huge You are almost there....keep your chin up the worst is over. I believe everyone on this site that says the waiting is the hardest part. Kinda of like watching a pot of water boil.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Here's to an uneventful operation and a quick recovery. Take care and God bless.

Pre-Surgery Fears?

Hi Holly

You've probably read a million times that waiting is the hardest part and it's true! In my case there was too much time to think and surgery consumed my every thought so I tried to stay busy at work and focus on other things. That sort of helped.

I found your comment about the way you feel being a variant of normal interesting because all the years I suffered and didn't know it I also thought that was normal. Now that I'm post surgery I didn't realize how much pain I was in all the time! It's a new, happier me!

Best of luck to you and lots of s too.

this is giving me pause for thought

on the fear of the day thing and I am laughing since I am doing it too. I just wonder if post op, it will be a list of all the evil things my body won't be doing anymore.

Monday: because I had a normal, not painful bowel movement. Tuesday: Happy dance since I don't have to buy tampons Wednesday: say "WHOOPEE" because I don't have to schedule whoopie to coincide with my period. Thursday: smile at the idea of unstained undies.

I found this site last Thursday and I am glued to the boards too. But like someone said in a thread earlier, it is a productive activity and I shouldn't label it as an addiction. This is actually a healing activity and preparation for healing.

I do understand the fear of that I let the disease process in my body go on too long. I went the "lesser surgery" route instead of proceeding to TAH since I wanted a child. Then I do some logic and remember that they were in my pelvis with cameras doing repair work last November and not too much could have changed since then. In fact, getting those fibroids gone last year might just make this TAH a little less complicated.

I am also taking extra good care of my body pre-op. Extra rest, upped the nutrition, vitamins, iron intake. All that has got to do me some good in the OR, right?

Pre-Surgery Fears?

~~~ Jane ~~~
You are not alone out there with being scared! Everyone is at one point or another. It's normal. I looked forward to my surgery so much, that I actually didn't get scared or have second thoughts until right outside the OR, then I started to cry, and my DH laughed at me *punch* the meannie!
Anyway, here is a big and a reminder that yes, while waiting is the hardest part, just think ahead to how much better you will fell after the surgery. You will be back to "normal", not a variation of what normal should be.
Take care and good luck.
Melissa
