NAUSEATED!!!! what to eat?????

Hi jazzlyn I don't know if it will work for you or not, but whenever my stomach is really upset the only things I can handle are saltine crackers and Campbell's cream of celery soup.

Have you talked with your DR about the nausea? Could you be having a reaction to your pain meds? Maybe a different prescription might help? Just a thought.

nauseated

I am 2 weeks post op and have this underlying nauseated feeling too. I think it is my Premarin. I eat okay, just feel a bit nauseated all the time. It is manageable though. I took Phenergren when it got really bad and I couldn't eat.

I think it is the Premarin because it feels the same as when I was pregnant, many, many moons ago.

NAUSEATED!!!! what to eat?????

Definitely CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!!! After this many days your body will need the nutrients to get well and help you heal. If you are still getting sick your body is not getting what it needs, plus it hurts your belly (at least it did mine). DO NOT feel guilty about calling, this is what your doctor is there for.

My problem was the pain medicine, and I could not take it on an empty stomach, but with the medicine I could not keep the food down (a vicious cycle!). HE changed my medicine for the pain and gave me something for the nausea.

I hope this helps.

nausea

I know some of the nausea is from the Tylox I am on as codeine and its synthetics make me nauseated...but I thought I would deal with it as I knew I needed to take something strong for pain, can't take Demerol..so I don't know what else he would give that would be sufficient for pain relief. I should have got a script for phenergan.. but I hate to call the on call doc on the weekends. I do have a appointment at 930 in the morning and will talk with them then..
What foods went down better for some of you??

thanks

NAUSEATED!!!! what to eat?????

Jazz please don't feel bad about calling the DR today. They'll have an on-call DR who can phone in a prescription for you, either for a pain med that won't cause the nause or for something to counter the nausea. You don't want to go another day with the nausea as you can become dehydrated. You might want to drink some Pedialyte (they have flavors now) or Gatorade or other sports drink if you can, to keep hydrated... also ginger ale can be good on the tummy.

Call him anyhow. You do not want to get dehydrated, that could put you back in the hospital. I feel the same way you do about calling, even with an appointment tomorrow. He could call in the prescription for the phenergan for you, or if you still do not want to call him, most pharmacies have an "over the counter" anti-nausea medicine that may help you.

You need to try "bland" foods toast, baked potatoes both of these light on the butter. Maybe even a soft boiled egg when you get a "little braver". I hope this helps.

foods

Jello
Beef boullion
Rice Krispies dry or with soymilk
Applesauce
dry toast
bananas

That's what I ate the first week. And it all stayed down.

I quit being nauseated after I finally was able to poop. Took a dose of laxatives the first 3 times, and then the colon remembered its job.

NAUSEATED!!!! what to eat?????

You have recieved some good advise. You might want to try Tylenol or motrin for the pain and see if that will help. Only take your tylox on a full stomach.

When we have people come into the ER with nausea and vomiting we suggest a clear liquid diet until most of the nausea is gone. Jello, popcicles, broth, white grape juice, gatoraide, etc. Then move to a bland diet. Clear broth soups with noodles or rice. Then add in some crackers. Dry toast. Rice and boiled chicken. Mashed potatoes without butter. You should avoid any fried, spicey, fatty foods and many people who are nauseated have trouble with any dairy products, so take those slowly.

Do talk to your Dr tomorrow about trying a different pain med. Maybe some Darvocet or Toradol will be easier on your stomach.
