Surgery scheduled
Hello ladies, I'm really glad I found this website. My hysterectomy is scheudled for December 2nd. I'm not worried or scared, I'm looking forward to this. I've had painful periods alll my life, or they have been irregular. My gyno prescribed Estrace and Provera two years ago to help with the problems. That worked great until earlier this year. Had a D&C in August and the doctor discovered I had a lot of endometrial damage (which I already knew). He told me I had two options, wait 6 to 7 years until I went through menopause or have the surgery. I jumped at the chance to have the surgery and get this problem solved, I was not going to go through this pain for 7 more years. I'm 48 years old and not planning on starting a family this late in life.
Mostly I just want to give encouragement to those who are frightened or scared. I look upon this as another step to becoming a more fulfilled and happier woman. Since turing forty life has gotten better for me each year, the upcoming surgery is going to free me from worrying about scheduling vacations or special events around my periods. No longer have to run to the store and pick up supplies or run out in the middle of the night.
I understand that some of you are scared and worried. Personally I know 10 women at work that have had a hysterectomy in the last 12 months and each one of them is glad they had it done. Good luck and best wishes to those having surgery soon.

Attitude
Hey there! I am having my TAH on the 4th of Dec. so we are doing the same wait period. I like your attitude. Can some of that please rub off? I can feel like a real trooper some days and then a jellyfish the next. Hearing someone like yourself helps brace me up. I look forward to reading many of your posts.....

Excited about surgery?
Debig, Like you, I was actually looking forward to mine because I knew it would alleviate a myriad of symptoms. I was strangely excited while being driven to the hospital even. And, of course, after surgery, I've been quite relieved and definitely feeling better than *before* the surgery, even at two weeks post-op!

Thanks debig, you really have a great attitude and it's wonderful for you to share it with us other LIW. It looks like we'll be in the castle at about the same time, my TAH/BSO is scheduled for 12/3. Part of me is excited about the prospect of taking back my life, but a part of me is really scared and anxious. I hope some of your positive outlook rubs off on me.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful outlook!
