10 days and hurting

I got my crown but I'm wearin a frown. Dr. removed endo from my bladder and inserted a stint in my ureter during surgery. I am still having pain that feels like a UTI. I am on an antibiotic to control UTI's. Does anyone know when this pain will subside? Can diet aggrivate my bladder? I burn all the time. I am taking a over the counter bladder pain reliever but this doesn't help to much.

Would appreciate anyone's advice who has been down this road.

Hi Jeanie!

I have not had the problem you are describing but I wanted to send you some s!

It would be a good idea to give the doctor a call about the difficulty you are having.

10 days and hurting

Hi!

I just wanted to tell you that although I did not have a stinit inserted into my bladder or endo removed from my bladder, I did have a horrible, horrible, horrible time after they removed my catheter. I thought I was going to pass out the pain was so intense. I am 11 days post op today and still have pain when I have to urinate. The pain is not as bad as it was the first week, but it's still there.

I went to my doc 1 week post-op and they did a urine check just to be sure I did not have blood or an infection. (it did help alot to know all was ok...) In the hospital they had put me on PYRINIUM for my bladder discomfort and kept me on it the first week I was home. This medicine will make you pee bright orange BUT...it relieves pain, burning, etc. from your bladder being traumatized during surgery. My doc explained to me that this surgery makes your bladder and bowels go into a "sleep" mode. And they have to wake up again. Mine were having spasms and it still hurts but that medicine was very very soothing. I had a TAH and so my incision is still both numb and sore...I think once that gets back to normal my bladder will feel better. Right now when I have to go, I have to go right away or it will really start to hurt.

Also, I have not had any caffeine or carbonated drinks yet. Caffeine can really aggravate your bladder, and the sodas will make your gas pains worse. I'm still sticking with a "soft" diet i.e. mac and cheese, rice, etc. I'm drinking apple juice, prune juice, carrot juice..basically super healthy. And lots of water to flush things out. My nickname in real life is Jeannie Beanie so I had to say hi! Hope this helps, take care!

Thanks Jeanie Beanie: I am going to dicontinue the coffee today and see if that makes a difference. So far this morning it feels a little better. My stomach and bowels are not back to normal either so I am going to get back to a softer diet today.

Thanks from one Jeanie to another!

10 days and hurting

There is a long list of things that can irritate the bladder:

Benzol alcohol, citric acid, Nutrasweet, saccharine and foods containing preservatives and artificial ingredients and colors. Apples, apricots, avocados, bananas, cantaloupe, citrus fruits, cranberries, nectarines, peaches, pineapples, plums, pomegranates, strawberries and juices made from these fruits. Aged cheeses, sour cream, eggs, yogurt and CHOCOLATE (say it isn't so!). Fava beans, lima beans, onions, rhubarb, tofu and tomatoes. Rye and sourdough bread can also irritate the bladder. Aged, canned, cured, processed or smoked meats and fish; anchovies, caviar, chicken livers, corned beef and meats that contain nitrates or nitrites. Most nuts bug the bladder as well. Alcoholic beverages, carbonated drinks, coffee (this is a hard thing to have to avoid), tea and cranberry juice.

Condiments like mayonaise, soy sauce, salad dressing and vinegar. Miso, and spicy foods. Junk foods (ahhh shucks), cold and allergy medications containing ephedrine and pseudoephedrine and certain vitamins that may contain fillers can irritate the bladder as well.

This information isn't a list I thought of.. it is taken from a pamplet that my urlogist gave me on things to avoid if you have IC (Interstital Cystitis: damaged mucous layer in bladder).

I am having to avoid all the above items and substitute with what is ok to eat and or take (which isn't much). I practically eat like a bird!

Ask your doc before doing this, tho.

My experience is similar to JCulp's...however my bladder was adhered to my uterus and had to be cut loose (so to speak). I had SEVERE spasms in the hospital and the dr. sent me home on Ditropan. It really helps! I also had a urine sample done at my 1 week post-op appt. to check for infection....all was fine. I guess it just takes some time for things to get back to normal. Hope you feel better soon!!
