How much does everything weigh?

I was at a soccer game yesterday and several of the Mom's said that after the surgery that I'll drop about 15 pounds from the weight of everything that they will take out. Is this true? I find that so hard to believe. Shoud I start eating now? I really can't afford to lose any mroe weight. Thanks!

How much does everything weigh?

Hi Blueyes43!

The "stuff" doesn't really weigh that much. A normal uterus weighs about 50 grams. Sounds like a lot, right? Nope. That is about 3 ounces. I had fibroids and the uterine lining was thickened. My uterus was the size of a 16-18 week pregnancy. It weighed 380 grams, or 13 ounces.

You may lose weight immediately after surgery. This is due to the stress of the surgery and recovery on your body, also for a few days you won't have much of an appetite. Once you get your appetite back you won't be losing any more, unless you try. I lost about 10 pounds in the four weeks following surgery. I gained most of it back, even though I should have kept it off and lost more

Continue to eat healthy foods, and in reasonable quantities, both now and after surgery, and you should be fine.

Best wishes!

How much does everything weigh?

It is my understanding that the average healthy uterus, tubes and ovaries weigh less than a pound. How much yours will actually weigh depends upon if you have very large fibroids and/or cysts, etc.

Some women lose no weight at all, and others do---it is all so variable. Here is an interesting thread where a lot of women are discussing weight loss/pathology results. It's pretty interesting!

Blue eyes

After your surgery get your surgical report and pathology report. The path report has the size and weight individually of everything they removed and the test results. Surgical report tells everything they did to you during surgery, even what size thread they used.

Ask Dr. for copy or get it from the hospital.
