AF hitting with a vengence

This last round of AF is really taking its toll on me. Tampons are of no use to me right now....within 20 mins a super plus is filled. My iron levels are so low right now...I am trying my hardest to eat my greens and get plenty of protein but I tell ya, its hard! I am debating on whether to call my dr or just let it go and wait til Teusday for my surgery. I was really dizzy all day along with blacking out/dimout (nothing new to me)yesterday...combo of not eating much at all...running around like a mad woman preparing for Halloween and this period....its extremely heavy.

Do you think the dr will cancel the surgery if I am feeling this tired and bleeding this heavy? I should be over AF by Teusday but I am afraid I will be too anemic for surgery. Does the dr base decisions on whether AF is hitting too hard or what to me seems too hard?

I am really confused right now and I really dont want to cancel my surgery. I want this all over with! Do drugstores sell iron pills? That would help, right? Anything else anyone can suggest to help relieve these tired and beaten symptoms?

Thanks a bunch!

And again, I know that what ever any of you tell me isnt true medical advice....I am just looking for anyone who can relate to what I am confused about.

Hang in There.....

Hey Wends....

I'm so sorry you're feeling so bad....just think this will never happen to you again. Your uterus knows something is up and is just trying to get even, but we know who will get the last and final laugh . You need to contact your doctor, it sounds like you are losing a lot of blood. Yes, they sell iron supplements at pharmacies, but please call your doctor first and see what he/she recommends. Hang in there....this time next week we will be on the road to recovery!!!

Let us know what the doctor says...

AF hitting with a vengence

Hi Wends, yes you probably should call your dr. He/ she might have some suggestions that could help you . I was slightly anemic for my surgery and my dr still did it but your dr should know ahead of time if possible. Good luck, hang in there - your wait is almost over now. s

AF hitting with a vengence

It doesn't matter at all to the doctor if AF is present for surgery, heavy or not.

I would call the doctor now and tell him about the dizzy spells, etc. I wouldn't take any iron unless he tells you too. You must have had your preop blood work already , right? If it were fairly normal perhaps they can estimate what this AF impact might be, and they can then decide what to do.

iron

Wendy,

I have gone through low iron with all of my kids. I have also been in the WIC (Wemen, Infants, and Children) Program.
They teach you to drink orange juice with iron rich food, this helps your body absorb the iron more easily. Hope this helps ya.

Called my dr

And thank you all for your advice!

I am told to go to bed and kick my feet up. Iron supplements are good and we are still set for surgery the 5th. I am SO relieved!
