"Therapy" shopping list!!

Last night I had my pre-op at the hospital and talked to the most wonderful nurse - her name was Florence! Florence told me that she had complied what she called a "Therapy" shopping list of things that women should buy to bring to the castle with them and she explained why it was called a "therapy" list. I thought it was fantastic and would like to share it with my fellow LIW!!

2 pretty nightgowns and a cozy bathrobe....there will be guest and even though you'll be feeling awful - a pretty nightgown and a cozy robe will make you feel a bit better!

Fuzzy slippers with a no skid bottom... fuzzy slippers look much better with the pretty night gowns than the boring hospital slippers!

A pretty scarf or headband....Your hair will be one of your very last priorities! A scarf or headband will keep the hair out of your face and will hide your "bad hair" from visitors!

A pretty scented lotion and body spray.... It may be a day or two before being allowed to take a shower but having something to easily freshen up with will help to make you feel more feminine

Some warm socks .... Hospital can get a bit chilly so some pretty cozy socks will help to keep the tootsies warm.

A book of short stories .... You will be tired and taking frequent naps so a long book might be hard to get into. The Chicken Soup for the Soul books are highly recommened!

A beauty mask... to block out the light and help you sleep better or to use to "hide" when you'd rather not have visitors!

Hard candies and mints... Great when you mouth is feeling icky but you really don't have the energy to brush you teeth! Also to help get rid of aftertaste from meds and dry mouth that can sometimes follow anestisia

And from home....A comfy pillow - doesn't everyone sleep better with their own pillow? Plus the scent of home can be a comfort in such unfamiliar surroundings

Florence explained that waiting IS the hardest part and it was very important to keep busy!! She said that shopping for everything on the list would provide a distraction for awhile and was part of the "therapy". I did my shopping with my daughter this AM and enjoyed picking out some pretty things for myself, which I don't get to do very often. Hubby didn't even care that I spent a few bucks on myself - he gave me a kiss and told me I deserved a little extra pampering!

"Therapy" shopping list!!

Hi Dad'sGal your DH sounds like a keeper, and that Florence sounds like someone many of us would like to clone for our hospitals! Her list is full of excellent suggestions. I'm sure you will feel very pampered at the castle, between the items you bought and your DH's attention!

Good luck with your surgery, and I'll be looking for you over in Post Op.
s,
-Linda

Thanks!

Hey Dad'sgal, we have the same castle date! I will print out your list and head to the shops! I am starting to become obsessive and need a diversion. Looks like all good advise.

Looking forward to the post-op boards and being on the other side! Good luck.
