Hi Tonya,

's Please try not to be too scared - I know, it's easy for me to say, because it's not me, but most of us have found that the waiting part is the hardest part of this surgery, and I am hoping that it will be the same for you.

If your ovaries are going to be removed, then you may need to be on some sort of hormone replacement therapy afterwards. Depending upon the reason for your hyst, your doctor may not want to start you on anything right away.

Have you read any of the articles in the Hormone Jungle? They may be helpful to you. http://www.hormonejungle.com/

In my case, I was going through menopause anyway, and although I kept my ovaries (because they are healthy, and were putting out at least a slight amount of hormones) I am on Premarin, which is working for me.

We all are different, and you will want to talk with your doctor about what he/she thinks will work for you.

Please keep on reading, researching, and come back to post any other questions that you may have. I wish you the very best.

's

Karen

surgical menopause

I can understand how scary this all is. You are in the right place for info and support tho. It was here that I found out about bio-identical hormones, and when I went to talk to the compounding pharmacist, he answered all my millions of questions and more. It really eased my mind about the whole hormone thing (b/c of them being bio-identical), and made me feel like I had a good team on my side(including doc) to help me thru this.

He took my particular medical history, and I told him I really did not want to have to suffer a lot of surgical menopause symptoms, esp while going thru recovery too.

He suggested I start my HRT right away in hosp after surg. and my doc agreed. I am not quite 2 weeks post-op, and doing great. So far, the HRT we came up with seems to be working just fine.

Let us know how you are coming along and Best of Luck!

surgical menopause

Hi,
Going into surgical menopause was the scariest part of all this for me.
Many thanks to this site and my wonderful sisters here and at the Hormone Jungle, I became more informed on my choices and brands and types of HRT out there.
I was started on a patch right after surgery and it worked very well till it came off the last day i was there and I was sent home with a pill.
After a week on that with not responding well to it, I asked to be switched to the Vivelle Dot patch (bio-identical) I had learned so much about. Been on it ever since and loving it.
Please do keep reading here and learning all you can and see all we have to offer.
Check out the Hormone Jungle....
Good luck and best wishes!

Hi Tonya,
I'm 3 wks post-op tomorrow and they removed everything. started estroderm patch right after surgery. I did have hot flashes for a few days and now have no problems. It's been working great for me. The patch I'm on is just estrogen, not the one that's been in all the news. You will need to go over it with your You'll have to go over your medical history to find out what's right for you.
Good luck !
Trudy
