Feeling So Good it's Scary

I had tvh on 10-30-02, I came home from castle on 10-31-02 feeling pretty good beside the nausea and vomiting for 2 days. I had my DH take me shopping on Friday, stayed for about 1 hour and had no problems. I caught myself mopping the kitchen floor on Saturday and stopped once I realized what I was doing. I am thinking that if I continue to feel this well I will go back to work next week. Is this normal and should I still stay off work for a few more weeks?

I felt pretty good right away and asked my DR if I could go back to work early...he said absolutely NOT. He hates to do the LAP or Vaginal Hysts. because the patient feels better more quickly which can cause you to do too much too soon. He told me a few horror stories that send me home and back to bed. If the desire arrises, please do not over do it. You are still healing inside for quite a long time. I started doing my sit-ups last week and set myself backwards. I will wait on those for a while yet.

Best of luck on your continued recovery!:dance2:

I cannot stress enough how important it is to give yourself the recommended time to recover from this surgery. Any kind of hysterectomy is major surgery---even tho you don't have an abdominal incision---you have lots of internal stitches than can only heal properly by giving your body adequate rest. Six weeks is not an unrealistic amount of time for most of this healing to take place. In my case I was still tiring easily even after 6 weeks and had to make sure I listened to my body and not overdo. Please be very careful about any kind of physical activity so soon in your recovery. You only have the chance to heal properly once.

Here's a link with some very good postop advice.

Best wishes for a smooth recovery.

Please don't consider going back to work next week...it's too soon. I also had a great recovery. Never had any discomfort other than at the incision for a couple of days....but I treated myself like a new princess and didn't "push it".

Six months from now you want to be able to say "I had a great recovery", not "I was feeling great at the beginning but..."

I agree with Patti, Shelley and EM! Please take the time to heal! It will be worth it in the end. As one wise Board Hostess said many times to many ladies rushing their recoveries.............."you only have one chance to heal, so do it right." I hope you will take all our advice and take the full time your doctor has given you to recover from this very major surgery.....

I'm glad you are feeling good. When I was in the first 2 weeks of recovery, I had one of the best days of my life! I felt fabulous.

The anesthesiologist had advised me that one of the meds could be in my system for up to two weeks post op, so I should act accordingly.

A few words of caution: If you still have residual anesthesia in your system, or narcotics meds in your system, you may be feeling better than you really feel. It can be tricky. Once mine were gone, I did not feel as wonderful.

Something to consider here is that you may do yourself some harm while feeling so good. You may cause yourself avoidable complications. You have many, maybe hundreds of stitches inside that could be popped or pulled. You could even end up in ER. Or, you could lengthen the time it takes for you to heal and recovery fully. Please take it easy for a few more weeks. It's the smart thing to do.

And if it ends up that you feel great the entire time, enjoy it ! But still wait for the go-ahead for all activities, from your DR. You will be one of the very few with such rare good fortune!

Feeling So Good it's Scary

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one worried about feeling good after surgery. I was beginning to wonder if the doc did anything to me at all while I was snoozin' on the table. I guess I've been feeling a little guilty also, so many of the other ladies here have been not feeling well afterwards that I was afraid to say anything. I still have slight twinges of pain occassionally on my lower left side and my lower middle (kinda down from my belly button) and I'll be 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I'm still trying to take it easy though. The only problem I seem to really be having is that I tire easily. I also think my getting tired easily is from me not being able to go to sleep at night. Here it is almost 1230am and I have to get up in 4 hours to get the kids ready for school. I will take your advice and take it easy until I have my 6 week appointment. Thank you all, your imput makes me feel much better everytime I come to this site. :dance2:

Week 2 I felt great. Up moving, walking, finally able to find a comfortable position for sleep. Off of the pain meds totally, even Advil. Then at week 2 + 1 day it's like all the medication wore off. Feeling lots of little pulls and twinges and sore places and stiff places and I see it's still going to take a while.
