Anybody else laparascopic oopherectomy?
Had a hysterrectomy two years ago with one ovary left (endo)and just this past Tuesday had other ovary taken out (endo).
Going pretty well and no "changes" yet in the hormone department.....but wanted to see if anyone else going through this and what they're noticing. Going back to work next Monday. I know with other hysterrectomy had 6-8 week recovery until felt full energy back. Am assuming not near the case with this?

Anybody else laparascopic oopherectomy?
Hi there!
When you had your hyst, you had a major organ removed and there were a lot of internal stitches, along with ligaments moved and stitches to provide support. That is one of the main reasons that initial recovery after a hyst is generally 6-8 weeks.
I don't have any experience with an oorphectomy, but I would think that recovery would be much quicker because it doesn't involve major sugery. I'm assuming your Dr. has given you clearance to return to work? Hopefully someone else will be along who has had a similar surgery and can share their experience with you.
Also, since your remaining ovary has been removed due to endo, that usually means no HRT. You may want to check out the No Hormone Desert Oasis forum here at HysterSisters. You can get there by clicking on Hormone Jungle at the top of the page.
Best wishes and s

At first, I was facing just ovary removal through lap procedure. My DR said 2 weeks for initial recovery if we went that route. I opted for the hyster with it's 6-8 week recovery because of prolapse, etc. So, no real experience, just letting you know what my GYN said about recovery time.

LSO and myomectomy laproscopically last year
I was up, around and off pain killers three days post op. Did have a four inch abdominal incision since the fibroids and stuck together tube and ovary were a bit large to pull out thru my belly button. Had to RSO because of severe adhesions. Had my tubes tied that surgery too. Staples hurt more than the actual incision. Stayed in a hotel overnight since we have to drive 2.5 hours to get home. Lousy Thanksgiving day last year and poor DH didn't get to watch the game since this princess hates football.
I just did LAVH/RSO 12 days ago, so I am fully menopausal now. Doc put me on Vivelle dot on day three and having a few hot flashes, a few teary hours, but not anything really horrid. Dh still has his head, I haven't remodeled his rectum verbally.

THanks for all the input. I am up and around and didn't need much in the way of pain pills which was great. Just find I get tired sooner than I'd like which frustrates me. I think the hard part of outpatient surgery is giving yourself "permission" to be tired for awhile.... as outpatient seems to imply--no big deal! The physical part is a LOT easier than my hysterrectomy...so I'm thankful for that. I appreciate the two week time frame--as that gives me a more realistic view and gives that reminder to listen to my body for awhile. Thanks! Great resource!

recovery
I had an oopherectomy 10/15/02 (Tues.) due to a 10 cm dermoid tumor. My Doc was able to do it laparoscopically and I went back to work the following Mon. 10/21 so I think two weeks is probably very realistic. I had my 3 week checkup last week and everything is fantastic. I hope your recovery is as uneventful as mine.
