No, not hot flashes; COLD flashes

This is so very strange. I have always (all 57 years) been a person who was too warm; I've always been happy at about 10-15 degrees lower than most people. Starting in my early 40's I was looking forward to menopause to be rid of very heavy wretched periods but I dreaded the possibility of hot flashes, since I was always pretty hot anyway.

Well, surprise: I never got a hot flash because I never officially was into menopause before I was diagnosed with uterine cancer at age 56. Had TAH/BSO on Oct. 21 (almost 3 weeks ago) and now I discover that my inner thermostat is completely out of whack. I go from being freezing to being too hot and back to freezing, all in the space of half an hour, with no change in the room temperature. I am constantly adding and subracting several layers of clothes throughout the day.

I'm not on any kind of HRT. Asked my oncologist/surgeon about it and she said she didn't think at my age it would be necessary, especially since I am significantly overweight and even with the ovaries gone, my estrogen levels would probably remain high enough (from fat cell conversion) to keep me from having hot flashes. I never even considered COLD flashes!

ANYBODY out there experience anything similar? I'm hoping things will level out over time but meanwhile, somebody hand me another sweater!

I never had hot flashes either. BUT I've had cold flashes. ANd they are at their worst when my thyroid is out of wack. I was always a warm person too. I liked temps 10-20 degrees colder than others. Seems I had a hyperactive thyroid. But it would fluctuate and then I'd get cold flashes.

Might not hurt to ask your doctor about a thyroid test if you haven't already had one.
