11 Days post with questions

I feel pretty darn good! The meds I am on make me a little woozy at times, but other than that I seem to be doing well. My incisions hurt a bit, but I have my post op appt tomorrow to remove the steri strips.

I've been able to wash my hair, and I sit down to dry it. I am close to thinking that I can mage alot more and probably need some reminders. My particual doc is the kind to say "If you want to get back to work in a couples weeks, fine!"

Can anyone out there explain what's going on in me at this stage in the game. I tire a bit easily, but just wondering what most women experience at this time, and how much longer it is until they feel it's safe and appropriate to return to a sit- down job.

THanks ladies!!

Cori,

Glad to hear you are doing so well! Please be careful, though. I felt very good for the first week or 2 after I was home, too. The pain meds can fool you into thinking you are healed more than you really are. And, I did experience that 3-4 week "wall" that other ladies talked about. I think that is about the time when the nerves are really healing & you are pretty much off meds so you can feel things more.

I don't work, but if I had a sit-down job I probably could have returned to it at 5 weeks. (As long as I could get up & walk about whenever I felt the need.) Please listen to your body & return to your normal routine cautiously. Maybe you could start back part-time?

Best wishes to you!

Mongie

Hi Cori!

The INITIAL recovery period is 6 - 8 weeks but it can take many months to be completely healed. The internal stitches begin to dissolve at 2-4 weeks post-op. Be careful not to rush the recovery. Give your body adequate time to heal. I would suggest staying home at least 6 weeks. Take care.

Hey Cori, I had my surgery on 10/14 and went back to work part time two weeks later. I too have a sit down job. Today was my first day full time and my bosses are very understanding if I had to leave because I wasn't up to it. You know it's funny you mentioned about washing your hair, it's crazy the little things we take for granted like sleeping on your belly, sneezing, coughing, etc. A little advice, don't push yourself. You can really hurt yourself. Listen to your body...it knows how it feels. I still am not 100% (but heck I never was...ha ha). At your stage I was going stir crazy. There is only so much Springer and all the other talk shows one person can watch. Forget reading I couldn't concentrate long enough. You'll have good days and great days. Don't take advantage of the great days and over do it. Every day gets better! Hang in there!!!!

I hope everything gets better for you.

I am so glad you are doing so well and I agree with eveything others sisters said. You are very early in recovery and more importantly, not even off pain meds yet, which as they say, will give you a false sense of what your body is feeling.

I have had a very good uncomplicated recovery so far, (was off pain meds and moving around well pretty quickly), yet I still force myself to adhere to the caution and restrictions b/c I know that this healing stage is very critical and important and I do NOT want complications or relapse.

And now at almost 3 weeks post op, I am feeling some of the discomfort that everyone talks about at this stage, due to the stitches starting to disolve, and weak muscles and ligaments having to take over. It just reminds me that no matter how well one does, it IS major surg and takes time to recover!

Best Wishes!

Cori,

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op and feeling pretty good. However, don't think I am near going back to work even though I have a "sit-down job" that some might look at as "cushie"! In the last year there has been 6 ladies to have a hyst where I work (for the school district.) I do believe we have all gone back at different points in our recovery. Only goes to show that everyone heals differently. Like one sister said, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!! I have been off work for 2 months at this point (other problems prior to surgery) and don't plan on going back until my body tells me it is ready. I am a divorced mom to 4 and definitely NEED the income now, but need to be healthy even more. Take care!

11 Days post with questions

Hello all! I went for my 2 week post-op today. The doc walked in and said "You look like you don't feel well" and I burst out crying. From previous posts some of you may know that I have had a hard time with this crying and night sweat stuff, even with having ovaries. I have no energy and he was concerned about that and did some blood work.

Since I have had some low grade fever he put me on antibiotics as well and told me to come back in 2 weeks. He also told me to continue my pain meds and Valium. I encourage anyone who needs it to use it. I think my doc said it best when he told me my body had been through severe trauma from this major surgery and that it was almost like post traumatic stress syndrome. He said that stress is a big part of this and that my body was really suffering and it would get better in time.

Well, for now I bid you all a speedy recovery and hope you all have a great week.

Please remember to go at your own pace and that anything I say is for informational purposes only and that your doctor is who you should seek for medical advice.
