Hi Sisters

I am 4 months post op today : from SAH for large fibroids. When I saw my for my 6 week check up, everthing was fine. I asked when he wanted to see me again, he said he would like to see me the end of the year just to check up on me. (That will be 5 months post op)

After your 6 week check ups, did you go back for any follow up check ups? I still have my cervix so I will still need yearly paps but I was wondering if anyone else that did not have any complications or problems had gone back for follow up exams after surgery. (not including paps)

Thanks,

Terri

post op check ups

My Doc wanted me at 1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and three months. I've been more often because of complications, but they had me make all the appointments when I got my staples out at 1 week, and they say I still have to go to them all even though I've been in more often. Next appt for me is Jan 6. I'll probably be in before though cuz I'm having trouble.

My dr saw me 11 days post op and at 5 weeks-he wants me to come back in a month again. No complications-TAH/BSO-no cervix left ect.. I didn't ask why he wanted me back in a month-maybe he wants to keep check on my hrt I really do not know.

I think Dr's are as individual as we are and most of them have legitimate reasons for wanting to see us. My Dr. is a wonderful doc and I trust him so it never occured to me to ask why he wanted me back.

Hey girl, my Doc saw me 1 wk, 3 wks, and today(5 wks 2 days)and when I was leaving, he asked me to come back 4 wks from now...don't know if that is his usual schedule, or if it's because he said the sutures at the back of my vag. are not disolved yet.....
after that, he told me I'll have to go back atleast once a yr. for a pap-even though I don't have a cervix anymore...

I have had only one appt...today...4 wks post

My doctor said today that I was looking good and that I don't need to come back for a year for the basic pap. I asked about the pap too cause I don't have my uterous or cervix. She said that if you go 3 yrs will a normal pap then you only have to have a pap every 3 yrs after that...I said cool. That's not a bad deal. As long as you can remember to go every 3 yrs. I guess I will cross that bridge when I get to it!

Hi~

I saw my dr at 2 1/2 weeks & 6 1/2 weeks. I am to give her a call in 2-3 months if I am having concerns about my HRT - otherwise, will go in a year for a pap. I also have no cervix, but was advised to go for paps as there is still a concern for vaginal cancer.

Take care,

Mongie

I went today for 6 week checkup. She said everything looks great and I go back in 6 months. I had SAH with one ovary removed. Kept cervix so will have to go back for the pap in 6 months which would be a year from my last one anyway. Good luck to all! I am extremely lucky to not have had any complications at all. I was a very good princess which I think helped in a easy recovery. I am going back to work Monday which is 7 weeks later.

I saw my DR for the first time after being discharged 4 weeks post op from a TAH--he didn't do an internal, just checked my incision and felt my belly. Told me I didn't need to see him again for one year unless I was having problems. I had the TAH for fibroids with no other problems and am not on HRT (kept ovaries which seem to be working ok, but not cervix.)

So, judging from the other sisters' posts, it looks like follow-ups vary wildly from DR to DR, perhaps depending on the reasons for the hyst and whether there were problems/complications following surgery. So best advice is to do whatever your DR wants you to do and good luck and happy healing.

I had no complications. I saw my Dr at 2 wks, 6 wks, and 3 1/2 months. I will go back in a year.

Sounds like you Dr is very much like me.
