post op adhesions

I am post op by two years. Had an abdo hysterectomy in October 2000. They left my ovaries in due to my age (38 at the time). Over the last 12 months I have been having more problems, as in abdo pain. Eventually went to see consultant and he performed a laparoscopy. Conclusion was (as he showed me the photgraphs!!) servere adhesions with a cyst forming on one ovary and the other is so bad he couldnt really make it out on the photo!!!
I have been given the option to had the ovaries taken out now! I am a little reluctant as I had major problems after the original hysterectomy.
Is anyone out there going through the same or similar or ha s anyone been there and done it!??
Would be really gratefull for any input.

Thanks
Jean (North Wales)

((Jean)),
I'm so sorry for the continuing pain. I am 3 yrs post-op and am dealing with severe Chronic Pelvic pain as well mostly due to Adhesions They can sometimes be very tricky as they are our bodies natural way of healing and can reform with more surgery...I had an RSO in March of 2000 due to a large mass that showed up on a U/S that turned out to be Adhesions, the Ovary was also covered with muliple blood-filled cysts. That surgery, in my case, did not help the pain and unfortunately caused more problems. My left Ovaries blood-supply was altered which left it non-functioning and put me into Surgical Menopause. Only then did I find out I had a blood-clotting disorder that prevented me from taking any form of Hormone replacement. I also needed emergency surgery for Bowel Obstructions in May of 2000 due to Adhesions. I'm just offering that more surgery isnt always the answer. Has your Dr mentioned maybe the cysts could be your source of pain?

Dany posted some good links on Adhesions We have learned to be our own best Advocates concerning our health. To do that we find researching and educating ourselves on our symptoms so we can learn our options, the pros and cons of each, which helps in making the right decision for us. Good Luck in your research Jean, I hope you are able to find some relief to your pain Please keep us posted....

adhesions/ovaries

I am six months post-op and am having problems with pain likely due to adhesions. I also left in one ovary. I know from a past surgery 18 years ago(endometriosis) that I had to go in and get adhesions "snipped" 1 year later and then it was much better for years till I needed the hysterectomy for adenomyosis. I know that ovary removal is a hard decision to make, but I refuse to let my good one go - I don't want HRT!! Did your pain get better after the laparoscopy, assuming they did something about the adhesions?

Good Luck from

MY ONLY ADVICE

MY ONLY ADVICE IS THAT I JUST HAD A TAH/BSO/APPENDECTOMY 11DAYS AGO AND MOST OF MY PROBLEMS WERE SEVERE ADHESIONS. WE WANTED TO SAVE ONE OVARY BUT AFTER ME AND MY DH TALKED WITH THE DR. A LONG TIME WE DECIDED TO TAKE THEM BOTH OUT. THE DR. SAID IF I LEFT THE ONE THE ADHESIONS WOULD JUST COME BACK AND TAKE OVER THE OVARY AND HE WOULD EVENTUALLY HAVE TO TAKE IT ANYWAY. THOSE ADHESIONS SURE ARE LITTLE BUGGERS. HOPE THIS HELPS. ITS JUST MY OWN EXPERIENCE AND I AM GLAD I MADE THE DECISION. I KNOW THE ADHESIONS WILL OR CAN STILL COME BACK BUT AT LEAST NOT INTERFERE WITH ANYMORE OF MY FEMALE ORGANS.

Jean

I went through the exact same thing! In dec. 2000 i had a TAH kept ovaries, My uterus was taken for adeno and my cervix! Well 10 months later i was in a lot of pain! So my doc. did a lap , my left ovary was covered in adhesions and a endometrioma cyst! Well my 1st gyn wanted me to go on Lupron which i flately refused! And he basicly refuse to treat me! I found another gyn and i went in for surgery April 24th of this yr. Gyn #2 cleaned out the adhesions and removed both ovaries! I'm on 2 mgs of estrogen and elavil (antidepressant to help at night with sleep)! I do feel better than before surgery i'm not 100%, but never will be either! I do believe my adhesions are back, but not as bad, I'm and endo suffer also! But i don't regret hgaving the surgery because now i have no left sided pain! I still get cramps and fatigue and that burning pulling sensation only if i over do it! So you are not alone!
