PreOp Appt

Hi all,

I had my Pre Op appt yesterday. I will be having an Abdominal hysterectomy. Dr Lahrmann said he would do a vertical cut from the belly button down. Even though the CTScan did not show cancer, Dr Lahrmann will have an oncologist surgeon on Stand By. He also asked me if I wanted to keep one ovary in case it still looks good and it does not have precancerous cells.. I told him I wanted a Total hysterectomy:everything removed. "I do not want to deal with the possibility of another cyst...ultrasound...etc..."

The surgery date is coming up faster than I thought. I am soooo scared. It seems like I am going to have a large cut. Aagh!!! The doctor also said that I would stay at the hospital 2 nights. Is that enough???

Did one of you ladies went through this or something similar?

Please let me know...

Hugs.

Amalita,

I am having a TAH/BSO on 12/4 with a "bikini" cut. In my case, they do not expect cancer but I do have a dermoid cyst. My CA- 125 was low at 14. They want it under a 35. Did you have this done? I am having everything out also as I was told I have a fairly good chance of having another dermoid in the other ovary as it is many times a bi-lateral disease. I am 48 and having many menopausal symtoms. Good luck to you. I felt better last night after going to my pre-0p appt. The doctor took a lot of time to answer the questions my husband and I had. Good luck to you!

When I had my TAH/BSO my doctor said alot of times they would do a vertical incision but he opted to use the bikini line since I had already had a scar there from my c-section. I was actually ok with however they needed to do it.
I was in the castle 2 1/2 days.

Its ok and normal to be scared bout going into this surgery. Its a very big deal but you will feel so much better after your recovery.

I opted to have everything removed. I had scar tissue encasing my right ovary and tube, long fairly heavy periods with clots and pain. I have had abnormal paps too so there went my cervix. Adhesions everywhere. My lower back was even affected and I had PMS bad.
I am adopted so that was another reason to get it all out once and for all and i didnt want to have another surgery down the road.

Please keep us posted. We are here to help you get through this. You are gonna do great.

Hi Amalita,

I had a TAH on 11-5-2002, and before the surgery I was seeing a doctor who said that due to the size of my fibroids the only way he could perform my surgery was to make a large incision from my navel down to the pubic area. This really bothered me and I also wanted to get a second opinion on the surgery and all so I went to another ob/gyn in my area. This doctor said that even with the size of my uterus she could do the procedure with a bikini cut. This really surprised me. She also came highly recommended by several other woman who she performed TAH on so I ended up switching doctors. Also she said that the normal stay for me would be 3 days in the hospital. I went in on a Tuesday and came home on Friday afternoon. I guess some doctors have patients stay for more or less days. Maybe it has to do with the insurance plan I'm not sure, but I can say that 3 days seemed like a good amount of time to work on getting well and having the support of the hosptial staff. By Friday I was more than ready to go home.

I know this surgery can be scary and I remember getting very nervous especially the day before I had to go in, but I can say that things did go really well and I was never in a lot of pain and I'm feeling much better. In my case I think I made the right decision.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you have as good an experience.

pre-op app

i had my preop too last week , i had 3 csections and they were all vertical, the doc said she would do the same. she didn't say anything about a bowel prep but then i forgot to ask her. i am on anti-inflamitories for a possable surface blood clots on my leg (i go for a ultrasound today) .i heard that i can't take the anti-inf 10 days before the surgery so i called her office and she called me back not the nurse.anyway she said that it was ok to keep on it and she will be putting me on them after . i asked her if she could take out some of the fat on my stomach while she was there but she just laughed and said sorry wish i could. i have 9 days left, having my hair cut next week, my DH said that he might have to work the day of my surgery as they can't request the day off (some sale that day) my sister said she was picking me up to take me to the hospital.
