Fluid retention preventing UAE

Hi!

I'm still trying to become a candidate for UAE. Things were looking good until the MRI showed that my uterus was holding back about a quart of blood. (Which I had found out a week later when it all came out once, but it was impressive to have a doctor confirm the volume.) Anyway, they quite recently pointed out that they can't do the procedure if the necrotized tissue is going to sit in my uterus for days (infection risk). My gynecologist thinks that it is the pressure of the fibroid holding the blood in. I would be more inclined to believe this if the fibroid were close to the cervix, and, if I didn't immediately start bleeding when I miss a pill. (Okay, 18 hours; not weeks the way the retention during estrogen is.) I'm now scrambling to get second opinion appointments lined up. Anyone else ever heard of anything like this?

Thanks,
Anne

Fluid retention preventing UAE

Hi Anne,

From what I've read, when you have fibroids (one or many) it can make it difficult for the uterus to shed the lining. Perhaps this explains why your uterus is holding so much blood. Can't say I've ever seen any other posts exactly on this topic, though. I think you'll need to discuss this with your gyn to make sure you understand what is happening in your uterus and how the fibroid(s) might be affecting your bleeding.

I know your desire is to have UAE, so I hope that will work out for you. Best of luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Thanks! My gynecologist is insufficiently curious, but I have 2 other gynecologist second opinion appointments scheduled for late next week, and now one second UAE opinion. Now I just have to wait... :-) Figured it was worth checking whether other people have heard of it.

Thanks!
Anne

UAE

Hi Ann,

I have fibroids also. Scheduled for Hyst in Jan. I'm now freaking out and am back to the UAE idea. My doctor thought it was an option a year ago but now I don't know. Reason I did not follow through is that insurance wouldn't pay.

I had thought they were too big at this point for it to be of much help. I too have had uncontrolable bleeding. My doctor told me this was due to the uterine lining being unstable from the fibroids. This seems to be the opposite of what your doctor is telling you. My bleeding doesen't seem to have any rhyme nor reason to it..just kinda constant and then a flood when it's my "real" period. Certian things set it off. Ibuprofen and exersize.

Since I have a surgery date I have tried the natural pro-gest cream...WOW. I stopped all that breakthrough bleeding within 48 hours. Nothing notta!

It remains to be seen what happens at the end of the 21 days.

I'm still not too keen on the hyst idea and the more I read the less I want one.

In all fairness to those of you who have had a hyst and are happy with the outcome..hats off! I know that for many of you it's not an option. But at this point it still may be for me ao I also am going to persue it.

Ann do you know if you can do HRT after this procedure? Anyone?

Nanc
