Getting Patch to Stick

The doctor finally presribed the hormone patch for me. I put it on after my shower today. I made sure skin was clean and dry, no lotion. It is sticking to my bottom, but it's wrinkled some and one small edge is lifting. This is my third HRT, and I hope it works.
I would really appreciate any suggestions.
Love,
Gayle

Getting Patch to Stick

About halfway down in this thread are some great tips by Karen on how to maximize adhesion.

It's critical for steady hormone delivery that the patch be continuously and completely adhered, since the adhesive is the delivery system. It's also important that you read the fine print in the directions about your relative dose depending on where you put the patch--you do need to be consistent. Maggie posted about the difference a couple months ago: "The prescription info. for both Climara and Vivelle shows that the delivery is higher (17%-25%) when placed on the buttocks rather than the abdomen. But interestingly their standard instructions suggest placing it on the abdomen."

Good luck with your patch--hope this is the one that gets you out of the Jungle. [blue]

Getting Patch to Stick

What brand patch are you using? I've personally had much better luck with the Vivelle dot than Climara, for example when it comes to sticking and even dose delivery. The dot patch is small and compact and sticks very well for me.

Also I've found there are some places where the patch sticks better than others on my body. My best place is the top of my buttocks near my hips (the patch wrinkles more if I stick it right on my buttocks for example). So you might notice this too and it's probably varies depending on body shape, as to which place will work best for you.

I need a higher dose of estrogen so I wear two patches (one on each side). Needless to say this has given quite an opportunity to experience my various placement location options.

I started out on the patch system and it's worked very well in my case. Here's hoping this type of HRT works out for you also!

Getting Patch to Stick

hello,
I am using the climara patch and love it. At first I had trouble getting it to stay smooth and not wrinkle by the end of the week, but I've tried different areas and found the ones that work best for me. If you are have saddle bags like I do, I found my patch stays best when I place it on them. I found it hard to place the patch on my buttocks, and it would wrinkle on my ab's.
Karen gave some great tips, using the blow dryer after bathing and swimming has been the best tip for me. I now can go all week and not worry if my patch is going to wrinkle and come off.

Good luck with your patch. Keep asking questions if you have any problems.
