Weight Gain

Hi Everyone... This is my first post here. My situation is this...I am 34 and 2 years ago had a total hysterectomy. The doctor left 1 peice of ovary in (the other was removed when I was 16). The decision to do this was because of my age and I didn't want to go on Homone Therapy so young (the doctor agreed). Unfortunately, I probably should be on something as I have been having allot of menapausal systems. (HOT FLASHES, MOOD SWINGS). I currently take Effexor 75 mg for my depression and anxiety witch has helped me allot but I guess I was wondering if anyone out there is experiencing foggy memory, lack of engergy and constantly battling the weight going up. I don't know if homones are the answer, could anyone advise me on this or tell me if they are going thru similiar symtoms. Any yes, I have had blood work done and my thyroid is SUPPOSEDLY FINE and my estrogen was a little low.

Thanks,
Dianna

Weight Gain

yes those are menopausal symptoms. it is very common to have your ovaries go to sleep after a hyst and many women go into early menopause....leaving ovaries doesn't always work out the way we hope. you need to see a dr about hrt and you need to be very concerned about your bones...we lose bone very rapidly when menopause starts. do some reaseach here to find out more about hrt's...go to www.hormonejungle.com and read the first page and some of the pull down articles...and of course post here with questions. and one more thing...

Weight Gain

Dianna,
Weight gain can be as much a sign of not enough estrogen as it can be with too much. I believe that weight gain can come from the imbalance. There's a great article about weight gain here www.hormonejungle.com/weight.php

All of your symptoms do point to a lack of estrogen. When your levels were tested and were low did your doctor suggest starting any hrt?

Do read the pull down menus in the link that Cynthia provided. You'll find some wonderful and useful information there.

Weight Gain

Hi dianna,

i notice that when my estrogen levels are too low or too high I have a problem with weight gain or water retention. It seems that without enough estrogen I suffer the effects of menopause One which is a sluggish digestive system and a puffy tummy. When I get too much estrogen in my system I feel it in a number of ways, Headache, dizziness, leg burning and excess water retention. When I take between 1.9 mg of tri-est my water weight mostly disappears, this seems to be the correct systematic dosage that my body can handle without the negative side effects of estrogen, However it doesn't take care of all the menopausal symptoms such as vag pain and dryness. for this I need estra in form of ring or tablet. i must still watch my salts and sugars which immediately add the weight. And this is not always an easy thing to do, as I love popcorn.
