water for adhesions

My doctor is talking about trying a new method that she thinks works. She wants to do another lap and after removing the adhesions she wants to put water in the areas where the adhesions are.Has anyone had this done and does it really work.

Candy,
I haven't heard of that. Perhaps you should discuss her using one of the adhesion barriers that are available. This site has some good info on the adhesion barriers www.adhesions.org

Could she have said "water-based" or "watery"?

http://www.centerforendo.com/news/ad.../adhesions.htm

Scroll down to "Dextran", and see if that might be it.

Or maybe (scroll down further), she was talking about saline (salt water)?

"Crystalloid Solution

The most common method used to try to prevent adhesion formation after surgery is to use a crystalloid solution. The best known are Ringer's and plain saline. However, several studies have shown that these solutions do not help prevent adhesion formation. The most common amount of solution used is 200mL. This is absorbed by the body in about six hours. Peritoneal repair takes many more hours. Adding more solution isn't the answer, either. Five thousand mL of solution takes about five days to absorb. However, such a large amount may reduce the body's ability to fight infection."

Hmmmm, I wonder if its the saline solution that my gyn used on me after my lap. But, OTOH, the saline solution method is not new, so maybe not
I do know that if I ever have to have a lap again (which I doubt) that I do NOT want it again. He put so much of it in - & it was seeping thru my small incisions So you might want to ask her to be more specific about exactly WHAT it is she plans on doing. Good luck !

Thank you for the responses. I did find out that she was talking about using a saline solution. The websites were very helpful with this. She used an adhesion barrier when she did my hysterectomy but after about 6-7 weeks the scar tissue built back up again .She came from Boston in May and the clinic that I go to doesn't use this method so I thought maybe it was something new. I go back to the in Jan.I copied pages from the wedsites to take to her so we can talk about other options.
Thank you so much

saline

My doc used saline when she did my lysis. My recent colonoscopy suggests that I have some adhesions again. No pain so far though, knock on wood.
