The best advice I ever got was from a pelvic pain specialist...

He told me to "watch out for the TYPE of pain clinic you are referred to". And he wanted me to seek out a three pronged approach to getting better:

1. Psych doc to help me "deal" with the pain
2. Pain doc to hep me deal with the pain (not with anti depressants either! But with real medication that does make life bearable
3. Pelvic pain specialist to keep a close watch on me

The type of pain doc you were sent to doesn't sound like an anesthesiologist. They don't usually want to do MORE surgeries and frankly, that's a bad way to go because according to the doc I saw, "One of these days, you're just plain going to run out of luck as you have and end up with irreversable nerve damage or worse". I later found out what the "worse" was...RSD and CRPMS. Think H-ll on earth.

Keep trying. Persistence is essential and yes it will sap you of all your energy. I hate to even have to say this in this day and age, but if you have a brother, father, or husband/boyfriend....take them with you. It's been proven that you're taken more seriously by a doctor when a male is present. Sad but true.

Keep up the search until you get some REAL help.

Fed up with the pain and the docs!

Adrite,

Hello, I was going to a pain clinic that was helping with treating my pain. Was on Duragisic patch and Panlor for the breakthrough pain, but the pain was getting worse and i was experiencing painful intercourse which the pain meds did not help at all. That was before my last 2 surgeries.....I am seeing my doc on the 13th for my post op and am hoping she will refer me back there until i can get to an endo specialist. It might take awhile since i will have to travel out of state and need to send records for a review.

You have a very good idea to not only allow yourself to have one approach and that working with pain mngt, gyn, and physc, together is the way to go. Before my other docs just were passing the buck, didnt know what else to do so passed me on to the pain mangt but gave up their part of my care.

I am planning to take DH in with me..i havent taken him in with me yet and told him this time he has to go....i need his support and feel like maybe if she hears it from him she will take me serious. Don't get me wrong DH has been wonderful through this all, i have been the one in the past that hasent let him go with me, thinking i could handle it all.

Sheri: thank you for the links, i took a look at them and feel even stronger that getting to an endo specialist is the way to go.

Thank you all for your wisdom and support

Fed up with the pain and the docs!

Elena,
I've been on the Duragesic patch for about 2 months now and it has provided me with the most relief of anything else that I have tried.

I haven't had to deal with endo, but I do have nerve damage (or so they say) and alot of GI problems. I've been travelling this Road for almost 3 years now. I do know how you feel about the doc visits and getting the run around.

You have to be persistant and do your homework. If a particular doc isn't working for you please find another. I'll bet I've been to 20+ different docs since my hyst. I think that I've finally some who actually care and are willing to help. Sometimes it does take perseverance and sometimes it takes a few docs putting their heads together.

I'm sending s and Do keep us posted on how you're doing. The is always on here.
