Please wish me luck: tomorrow is my first appointment with the Rheumy

Hi sisters

Well, that appointment proved to lead to another dead end: same old story that it's too early to know anything. However, the rheumy did give me some good pointers where exercise is concerned and booked another appointment for March. He also said to bring the photos from the x-rays I had back in July, not the write up, since it might reveal something the radiologist missed. He also said it doesn't mean that the pain isn't real or that there is no cause, it just means that, at this point in time, they can't identify the cause.

So, for now, I continue with the Celebrex and keep monitoring it. And he hopes that, maybe, eventually, the pain will disappear on it's on.

I'm sorry Dany

Did you like the doctor? Were you comfortable with what he said? Sometimes there are no quick and easy answers here.

I do hope he is right and soon the pain will disappear on its own.

Ahhhh Dany...

I know you had hopes of finding answers and it seems that maybe all he did was create more questions...

Why such a far away appt tho? March seems like a long time to wait to at least start investagating things?

I wish I could offer more than cybe hugs sweetie...

(((((((((((Dany)))))))))))))))))

I'm so sorry hon.

Unfortunately, goot rheumetologists are almost as hard to find as good pain mgt doctors. Frankly, I saw two rheumies. One was wonderful and one was a great big waste-o-my-time.

By wonderful, she took down all my history, gave me some good sound advice "Stick with pain management and you're tough, but you're going to have to get tougher and get a good support system behind you because you're only going to get worse". It was the blunt sound advice I needed at the time.

I haven't seen her since, but she gave me more courage.

Rheumies aren't that great if you have fibro except for dx'ing it and offering advice. As for controlling it...pain mgt is usually the only relief you get. At least in my neck of the woods.

Most Rheumies are dead set against any pain mgt. This one was not. Thank goodness.

Keep looking hon. Keep trying. There is hope and help out there for you.

Dead set against pain management?? She tells you that you have a disease/syndrome/whatever that is only going to get worse, but doesn't agree with pain management?! Hmm! Wonder if she would be so dead set against it if it were her or one of her family members suffering!? My rheumy not only diagnosed my MPS, but advised me to go to a pain management doc. I haven't been yet, because I was thrown into the land of the hystersisters and haven't been released from my gyn yet. However, I do plan to go...this is one chick that isn't going to suffer needlessly!

(((((Dany))))) I'm so sorry you didn't get the answers you were looking for at this appointment. March must seem like such a long way away right now. When the DR said "at this point in time" they couldn't identify what is causing your pain, does that mean he thinks something will develop by then that will help him figure it out?

I hope the exercise advice proves helpful. Also (whispering here, don't want to scare you) maybe you could just tiptoe through the sometime and see if we might have anything there to offer you, you never know? I promise we'll be gentle

Lots of s,
-Linda

((Dany)),
I'm sorry they had no definate answers Did they even mention FMS?? My Rheumy just follows-up with me every 6 months, for we have tried various treatments and Pain Mgmt has been the last ditch effort for relief from this pain as well, so she told me to stay with it ...Hang in there Dany, the answers will come

Thanks for the replies and words of dear sisters. I actually was not left with a bitter taste after this appointment, even though I was disappointment.

I really liked this guy: he answered my questions, took the time to sit with me and made some sound suggestions. He also knows how hard it is to deal with pain, since he himself is now suffering of osteoarthrisis (sp?), thanks to breaking his foot. And he didn't disregard my symptoms, just said that he didn't know what was causing them. I guess that it didn't help that that day turned out to be a pain free day.

Dawn: the reason for the appointment in March, is because he renewed my prescription and, from my chart, knew there hadn't been any developments in the past 5 or 6 months. Of course, if the pain increases, if there's swelling (there's none right now) or redness (again, there's none right now) I'm to go back and we can start investigating, with some leads.

(((((Angie)))))) As always, I find so much comfort from your posts, where you always offer such great insight. I hope you find a cloud with a silver lining real soon, sweetie.

((((Linda))))) I'm at your subtle (well, ok, it's not subtle) invitation to the Jungle. I am seeing my new GP in.... March ... for a physical and plan to approach the hormone issue at that time. Since she's doing the complete work up, I'll insist on a thorough testing of hormones and thyroid. Who knows? I might find more answers at that time.
