Saliva Testing

I have been using bio identical hormone replacement for nearly 3 years now. Each time I have a saliva test to check my hormone levels, my doctor told me to stop using my hormone replacement for at least 5 days. Is this right? I thought if one will stop before the test, I'm pretty sure all the readings will be low because you don't have enough in your system. I'm a little confused. I hope someone can explain to me the reason why one has to stop taking the hormones before doing the test.

No expert on this, but I agree with your logic

Seems they would want levels based on your normal HRT supps and then do the comparison. One problem my fried brain can't wrap around is how comparing me to some cross-section of women who have done the testing addresses my very individualized symptoms and needs. Ah, statistics! What's normal for 99 out of 100 women might be way off for me.

I can't explain your doc's reasoning and I am sure he or she knows more than me. I also don't know how fast hormones metabolize and if he or she is looking for non-HRT levels as a baseline. Could be.
