help, low thyroid plus crazy hormones, sad feeling
Went to Doctor, checked my thyroid said it was low, didn't say how low but didn't do anything about it. I have been 3 years trying HRT and everything seems to put me in a fog but without anything I am still in a fog. I have lost to much weight, tired, nervous but sad, I feel all mixed up. I am melting away. Does anyone think that all this could be due to thyroid? maybe if that was right I could get hormones right. I don't know what to do anymore. Also no insurance at this time and low on funds, whats a person to do?

there might be some alternative therapies for this
saw some mentioned in the Wilson's thyroid syndrome book, but nutrition and herbs take time to work. Bummer on the lack of insurance. I don't want to see you suffering any longer than necessary tho. Suggest maybe cross-posting this on the No HRT jungle board and see what they suggest.
Your doc might be able to work with your existing hormone panel and prescribe T3 if that is indicated. Worth asking, right?

help, low thyroid plus crazy hormones, sad feeling
Well your hunch is right. If the thyroid is out of whack it can make getting the hormones straightened out quite a task.
With the weight loss I am curious as to whether your doc means that your thryiod levels are on the low side which would make you actually hyper instead of hypo or you are lacking thyroid hormone. Did you happen to get a copy of your lab work? If you saw your GYN they will not do anything to help with your thyroid. They will leave it up to you to take it to your family practice doc or see an endocrinologist, which in your case posses a problem with you not having insurance.
If you can get a copy of your labs maybe we can help walk you through some of this. S

Hi,Princess,
(Hugs) to you. Hang in there, hon. Tough time for you. Are you on any hormones yet? When was your surgery and what did you have done? As far as thyroid problems, that can cause lots of problems, too. Both are endocrine problems (glandular problems) and kind of tied together - similar systems. If your thyroid is low, you need a supplement to boost it up (will start one, then do blood work again to see how it's working). If it's hyper or high, they do certain treatments to take care of that,as well. Please contact the doctor who did the tests, get copies of the reports from s/he (or from the lab that did them), go to your family doctor, or an endocrinologist for help. You need to feel better. Low thyroid can also cause bowel problems, like constipation/diarrhea or both, depending on if it's high or low. Usually low thyroid can cause weight gain, depression, fatigure, dullness or apathy, menstrual problems (which don't concern you if you had a hysterectomy), and other things. High thyroid can cause jitteriness, fast heartbeat at times/and pulse, weight loss, nervous/jumpy feeling and other things. Both affect your moods/bowels. Just get some help. Be praying for you. Keep us posted, ok? We care.
Love,
DebraDeeH

Hi,
Another thought on the insurance problem - do they have any free clinics or help anywhere near you, like through the health dept.? Some places do. Also, have you tried to get state health aid? Alot of low income families do qualify and you're exactly the kind of person who needs it = please check into it - it's worth it. One other option I can think of is that sometimes the doctor can prescribe a medicine for you and get it free from the pharmaceutical (drug) companies for people with no insurance, to check on this (hormones, as well as thyroid meds). Alot of office have free samples of the hormones, maybe not the thyroid, but maybe the drug company can help you there - ask your doctor about it. I'll be praying that you get some help - I'm sure you'll feel so much better getting on the right meds. God bless.
