New Lady in Waiting here
I've been lurking here for about a week I guess. All the info is wonderful. I've laughed and cried and felt both scared and reassured as I've read around the site. I got my surgery date on Wednesday. It's January 2, 2003. I'll be having a TAH BSO. I guess that's right. Everythings going including tubes and ovaries. I've had trouble for years with painful heavy periods. Lots of clots, lots of spotting. Pain between periods. fibroids, precancerous cells. Enough D&C's and ME biopsy that I've lost count. (Even had an ME Wed). About a month ago they discovered a mass on my L ovary. It grew over the month and when I had my sonogram on WED it was 9+ cm. I was so ready because of all the bleeding problems for him to say lets do it. Little did I know when I went a month ago because my flood was getting worse and worse that they'd find the mass. Whatever the reason, I'm ready. I'm also a bit emotional, not of losing my uterus, but of just what lies ahead.
I probably won't post much, I'm more of a lurker. Of course afterwards I may be just totally full of questions. I have to admit I'm a bit worrried about getting the HRT stuff balanced out just right. I don't want to go off the deep end and take my family with me.
God Bless each of you

Hi Kim!
We share the same coronation date!
I am having almost the same surgery as you, except I am keeping my cervix.
When is your pre-op appt?
Good luck, honey, and in 3 more weeks, we'll be on the other side! We'll do it together! Lurk all you like, and post all you like because ALL the ladies in here are wonderful! There's no question you can ask that hasn't either crossed someone's mind, or hasn't been somewhere on the boards, so ask away!!!
Be a good and learn all you can!

and Welcome Kim,
Sounds as if you've really had a time of it ...and many tests and procedures as well. I'm glad you spoke up and introduced yourself. Many of us just read and we jump in when we feel we can contribute.
I can't give you personal info on the surgery, as I did not get mine. I'm trying now to learn about the hormones...a deep subject. I believe you are wise to be concerned about your future with hormone therapy. No need to worry though...just keep reading and gathering your info and questions. And emotions run wild in most of us, especially prior to surgery.
I know you said you're a lurker...but if you need to vent or ask a question... please jump in. And as scared as we get, I know you also must be looking forward to a new year with a new body free of flooding and pain.
Mainly, I just wanted to say," Welcome".
s for you,

Glad you decided to come out of lurkdom and say Hi! Don't hesitate to ask questions, if you're wondering about something there is someone else who is also!
I personally didn't have any trouble with HRT. My DR started me on Estrace 1mg/day 2 weeks after surgery. I haven't had any hot flashes or any other problems.
Before surgery I had terrible PMS, wicked mood swings, a total b***c for about 10 days every month. My DH has commented several times about the change in me. One of my employees told me I was like a different (for the better) person.
Talk to your DR about your concerns. S/he probably has a preference, based on what has worked the best for their patients in the past. Whatever type you wind up taking, it's important to give your body time to adjust, to the HRT and to recovering from surgery.
Best wishes!
