Update -- Back from doctor!

Well, I had my appointment this morning and it definitely did not go as I expected. NP came in and asked if I was still having pain, I told her I was. She looked at my chart and one of the doctors there had taken a look at my US from last week. Guess what!?! My right ovary is enlarged to 5cm and was filled with several cysts!! When she sees this she consults with one of the other doctors there and he comes in to see me. This guy is nearing 80 years old and just as sweet as can be. (I had heard from someone who has gone to this clinic for years that he is still as sharp as a tack and has so much experience that he's a very good doc -- just not a surgeon). So anyway, he tells me that all the cysts are fluid filled and he is going to put me on the pill (to make the ovary go to sleep) and the cysts should resolve. I can't go back to work until January 2nd, and no sex, no lifting until then either. But I am thrilled with his conservative approach!! If I feel better on the bc pill -- feel like my hormones are more level-- then I'm going to ask to stay on them after the 3 months. Anyone else on them post hyst??

Update -- Back from doctor!

Hey Sweets!!! I just saw your post and I am so glad you're back from the Dr. I am sorry to hear about the cysts, but I hope going on the pill will help you. I had the same problem years ago, and the pill resolved it...

Update -- Back from doctor!

That's great that you're getting the help you need Let me ask you....did you have to ask for the ultrasound or did your doctor decide to do it? I ask this because you might remember how I've been in pain and I have not had an ultrasound or even a pelvic exam.

I hope the BCP's help you. I have considered going on them since my hysterectomy, but I guess now I'm waiting until after I see the urolgist and PT to see if those help me first.

Keep us posted

Update -- Back from doctor!

Hey pasdechat,

Sorry that you are still enduring pain!! I did not have to ask for the US. When I saw the doc at 5 weeks she did an interal and felt the swelling so, she had wrote in my chart that if it hadn't resolved by 8 weeks she wanted a US. You need to put your foot down and demand one or an internal -- SOMETHING that will at least head them in the right direction. Don't suffer!!

My hormones were wacky for many years pre op. Uncontrollable PMS!! The only time I had any relief was when I was on the pill (which I was for a year pre op). So, I had this in the back of my head when my hormones didn't seem to settle post op. Glad this doctor suggested it on his own. I only take 3 weeks and then start the next packet so, it is a continuous thing.

Hang in there! PM or e-mail me if you want.

Update -- Back from doctor!

HI VICKI!!
I finally found everyone over here on the "road less traveled." I was wondering where everyone was and I finally toodled over here to check it out. So anyway I am so happy to hear they are figuring out what is wrong with you. Hurrah! I have not had your problem post-op, but had to take bcp's for years and they kept my cysts at bay, so hopefully this will really help you. They found these through an ultrasound, right? I'm glad to know this b/cause I have an appointment w/a new ob/gyn in 2 weeks. I'm still having alot of pain although my swelling seems to be a little better these past 2 days. My doc is a dud and I'm giving up on him. At least if someone checked me out I would feel better just knowing that complications have been eliminated. So anyway......good luck on your treatment! Take it easy, too, don't overdo it! I did way way way too much last weekend and lemme tell ya, I was horribly sore and swollen all weekend long AND Monday. I should have relaxed with my feet up after my first week back at work, which aggravated my swelly belly in itself. Guess we still have to remember our rules for awhile! Keep us posted on how you are doing, ok? Take care chickie!!!!!!

Update -- Back from doctor!

((((Vicki))))) So sorry you're having all of these problems However, I'm really happy that you're getting the help you need. This doctor sounds like he's a pearl and is conservative approach is what you appear to need right now.

I haven't taken any BCP's to regulate hormones, but I know that others are on BCP's since their hyst. Hopefully, they'll be around real soon to share their experience.

Sending lots of s your way.
