LAVH/ removing ovaries also 12/30/03

Hello Sisters,
As everyone says, this site has been a Godsend! Here I am less than 48 hours away and getting fairly apprehensive if not downright scared witless! I am one of the lucky ones in that I have one ovarian cyst and a uterus that over the years has had some fibroids and occasional bleeding but nothing terrible - in fact I feel wonderful right now and am going in to make myself temporarily miserable? I think my greatest fear is post op pain - I know about the IV and feel prepared but fear waking up in recovery not knowing what to expect. Don't you love it when the pre-op nurse says "piece of cake"? Anyone just back from the castle with any words of wisdom?

I'm not just back from the castle. May 15, 2002. Words of widsom is to keep your positive attitude and humor. I do not remember waking up in the recovery room. dh says I did. When I was in my room, don't remember going there either. My pain level was a 0 to 1 when I finally woke up. Sent dh and ds home that evening.

Take the nurses a goodie basket they will come into your room often to get pieces of candy. and while they are there they talk and check up on how you are doing.

Keep busy now and do something extra special for yourself .

May you have an uneventful castle stay.

Hi,

So glad you found us here! This site *is* a Godsend....It sure was to me when I was preparing for my trip to the castle.

I am just over 7 months post op and doing very well. I only wish I would have gotten myself taken care of sooner if I knew it was going to be this good.

I dont know how I would have felt going through this surgery if it wasnt for the wonderful Ladies here and all the great information.

Please try not to worry yourself about the post op pain. It really wasnt as bad as I expected it to be.

I can clue you in to what it felt like for me.....When I woke up in my castle room, it was like a burning type of cramp but the nurse quickly put the button for my PCA pump in my hand with morphine in it. Soon I was feeling better. I pretty much went through my castle stay pain free. I was also given Torodol shots into my IV. Both of these meds were great and I had asked for the anti nausea med too to prevent getting sick.

I was up and walking around late in the evening after surgery. I was in the castle 3 days and 2 nights. I had a hard time staying in bed then....It was Springtime and I felt the fresh air would do me good so when my DH and DS and sister would visit, I would take my walks outside with them.

The evening I went home from the castle was a little tough since the morphine and torodol were coming out of my system but as soon as I got back I took some pain meds and planted myself on the recliner.

After I got settled home, I got to feeling better, day by day.

My biggest worry about this surgery since I was also having my ovaries out was HRT. That actually turned out better than I expected too. Been on Vivelle Dot patch since the week after surgery and its been great.

Just keep reading here and focus on how you will feel so much better after your recovery time. You will have a better quality of life. You will be ok.

Do keep in mind too that we are all different on pain levels and healing...We are all individuals and have our own stories to tell.

Best of luck to you and just think....you are starting off the New Year on the better side!

s and prayers

hi,
Well this website really has help me get through the whole ordeal. I have a TVH on 12-9. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I was scared to death that weekend before. I think we all feel that though. I remember waking up in the recovery room. I was trying to look at the clock on the wall to see what time it was but it was a blur. And the nurse asking me if I was all right. I don't remember them taking me to my room. I remember getting to my room though and moving onto the bed. The pain wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I think I was prepared because of my previous c section, so I knew what to expect. I did hit my pump during the night a few times, especially when I had to cough. I remember seeing my DH in my room, and talking a little and then I would be out. But really don't worry to much they won't let you stay in pain. The nurse kept coming in asking me if I was ok. Took morphine away next day and gave me toradol in IV. It worked good. My Doctor gave me that the following day before I went home. So that really helped for the ride home getting in and out of car, etc. You will be fine. And before long you will be a princess like all of us.
God Bless you
Mary

Hi,
I woke up in recovery and the pain was quite strong. I could just get out the word "pain" and the nurse gave me the pain pump, told me to press and away it went. I can remember very clearly having the most amazing feeling of calmness and relief straight away, all done at last!
I had virtually no pain from then on and barely used pump. Even after it was taken down, the nurses would come and ask if the pain was moderate or mild, honestly, it didn't even rate as high as mild unless I was getting on or off the bed, then it was more just pulling and uncomfortable.
I know I was lucky, but the pain issue was no biggie at all.
Hope all goes well,
Vicky
