pre-op nervousness

Hello. This is my first post.I am scheduled for surgery(tah through c-section scar!) a week from Wednesday!! At 22, I have not met anyone, especially around home, who can relate to me. All my friends think I'm CRAZY for having this, but they simply don't understand anything about chronic pain. Since I was 13 I have known I had endo and a cyst on my appendix which is now a cyst on my ovary?! Any advice on a speedy recovery? Thanks!

Welcome - I'm happy for you that you found this site. I've been coming in here for 3 weeks and it's made a world of difference in how I'm handling this. I can't relate to your particular situation, since I'm 53 and had no problems until 5 years ago. However, I have talked to other young women who are in a position similar to yours, and I'm sure they'll see your post.
I can say - no matter how old or young we are, this seems to be universally scary and tough to deal with emotionally. Just keep reminding yourself that you have made the right decision for YOU, because people who have not gone through the pain and suffering can't really understand how it affects every aspect of a woman's life. you WILL be healthier and your quality of life WILL improve after this is done, and whatever you choose to do with your life will be more enjoyable for you and more beneficial to the other people in your life.
I suggest trying the chat room - it helps me a lot to talk to other ladies in "real time" especially when I'm having one of my moments of panic. (My castle date is 1/13.)

Welcome to Hyster Sisters! This is a great place to talk about everything you're going through, concerned about and ask your questions. We've all either been there are or going through it. Nothing speaks more clearly than experience and you have found a Sisterhood here.

That's why your friends don't understand and think you're "crazy" - they simply have not had to deal with it. Who will be the first person they run to if they find themselves in your situation? You bet... YOU! And just like that scenario, we are here for YOU as you walk through this surgery.

Your question is about recovery and making it go well. Do you have support? Will someone be around to help out? What most women do is make some meals and freeze them so dinners are looked after ahead of time. The thing to do when you get home is to rest, take little walks around the house, drink LOTS of fluids and rest some more. You'll be sore, possibly on meds, will have a little trouble walking upright for the first little while (incision stitches) and tired. The MOST important rule in recovery is rule #1: Listen To Your Body. If you're tired, rest.

This is a major surgery and you need to obey the instructions of your doctor and your body. It will go quicker than you think. The waiting pre-op is harder to deal with than the actual recovery, hon. Don't worry, sweetie. You'll be just fine!

Hi sweetie. Relax you'll be fine! Just listen to your doc, follow his orders and rest! Drink lots of water and don't try to do to much! You'll find that a little more difficult than you think after awhile but remember that you only have one chance to heal, so take it easy hon! i know having a hyster at such a young age (I am 26) can be hard for others to understand but I know how hard it is to deal with cronic pain. Just know that It is the decision that you and your doc made and that you are the only one who knows how you truely feel ok! If you need anything please email me sunshine76@hystersisters.com ok?
