DRs. not on strike -- I've got a date!

After 2 months of waiting -- I finally have a date! January 20!
I guess our Pennsylvania surgeons gave WV surgeons the idea to strike. I don't have to travel 2 - 3 hours -- I just have to walk up the block.

Now my biggest decision is whether to recover at home or the parents' house. I recovered a week after my mastectomy at the parents', but the DH is unable to stay there with me. I'd like to go home, but have to go up 3 flights of stairs to get to the bedroom (and bathroom). Think they'd let me keep the cath? (That is only a joke!)

Called my primary for an antibiotic for the sore throat that today started turning into a cold -- but he decided he wanted to see me. He said he missed me -- I've been dealing with surgeon and gyn for the past year. I told him he's just looking for business. He got the last word -- he said because of all I've been through this past year (breast cancer and now this), after I've recovered he wants me to go for a bone density test (okay, no problem) and a colonoscopy! I reminded him I had 3 1/2 years to go before I turned 50. Apparently he won. So I suggested they open me up from stem to stern, take out the hysterectomy stuff, remove the other breast, perfom reconstruction, do the colonoscopy, vacuum out the sinuses, and just for fun, how about a manicure and pedicure. If only... Up until January 24, 2002 I never had an IV. The only surgery I had was tooth removal (in the dental office). Boy, what a year! Oh, and he told me my blood pressure was up. DUH!

Okay, I think I'm through venting.

But if anyone needs someone to complain more, I still got plenty of ammunition!

Wow, Terri , you did have quite a year, hopefully 2003 will be better to you.
I'm glad that you got a date and the hospital near you, that should help. I think that I'd choose the house without the 3 flights of stairs , at least for the first weelk or so. That's just my opinion of course.
It sounds like your sense of humor is still working. I like your answer about doing everything including the manicure etc...
Take care - s

(((Terri))),

What a time you have had! But, at least it sounds like you are keeping your sense of humor! Very important!!!

If it isn't possible for you to *camp out* in your bedroom near the bathroom for a few days, I would also opt for the house without the stairs. I had no restrictions on stairs - just to take it slow - but I would not have wanted to be climbing them to visit the restroom all day. It was enough for me to go up at night & come down in the morning. (I spent most of my time on my couch.)

Best wishes to you!

Hellooooooooooooooo

WOW Terri you have had quite the year. But beneath it all I see a good sense of humour and the will to get this done. You are going to do great with that kind of attitude.

I am so pleased you got a date. What a releif that must have been. Good for you. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Before long this is all going to be behind you.

Take care
