Travel after a TVH

I had a TVH on 12-27-02 (friday). My husbands grandfather passed away 1-5-03, there should be no problem with me making the 75+(each way) miles trip for the funeral RIGHT. I'll call my doctor in the morning, but just wanted to know what you guys thought. I'll be 1 day short of two weeks the day of the funeral. I'm doing great, just tired and bored.
Thanks,
~Terry

Travel after a TVH

I had TVH on 12-19-02, and went to my family's house 100 miles away on Christmas Eve. Just did a lot of sitting and lounging around....seatbelt wasn't much fun, take a pillow for those bumps!!! I didn't realize how bumpy the roads were in this town until now! Glad you are doing well. I am hoping to return to work either this Friday or the following Monday...see the doc on Thursday to see what he thinks. Good luck!

Travel after a TVH

Hi Terry,

Well, when I was at that stage of my recovery, I would not have been able to travel that far and I would not have wanted to jeopardize my recovery by doing so.

I'm truly sorry about your DH's grandfather passing away, but I think that you should consider staying home. You have not only the travel time to consider, but if you went, I'm assuming it would be to see other family members, attend services and so on. This can be exhausting when you are in the best of health, let alone this early in your recovery.

When I was 10 days post-op, my best friends Dad passed away. This is a family that I am extremely close with and have literally known my entire life. My friend and her family live only about 5 miles from me, and so I went to the evening viewing, which took place at just under my 2 week post-op date. I was physically uncomfortable and didn't stay very long. The funeral services were the next day, and I did not go. My friend and her family understood completely....and knew that I was with them all in spirit. I also felt that they had enough to deal with, without the extra burden of worrying about me, which they would have.

Best wishes to you and many s

Travel after TVH

I had my surgery on Friday afternoon, December 27 in a hospital 325 miles from home. Everything went well. I was dismissed on Sunday at noon. My husband and I drove home without any problem. The doctor said to stop and walk 20 minutes every 1 1/2 or 2 hours which we did. Yesterday, ten days post op, I rode along when my husband did an errand about 30 miles from home. No problem.

Travel after a TVH

I am three weeks post TVH and I would have been fine traveling that far last week....Zona had the good advice...be sure to stop often and walk about. And make sure to "go" before you leave!!

Ask the doctor first!!

I'm sorry for your loss.

Kathy
