Changing Hair Color?

I was wondering if anyone knows if your hair can become darker due to changing hormones or lack thereof. My hair started becoming darker right after I turned 35 and has continued to do so. It was about that time, also, that I started having problems with my periods...i.e. heavy bleeding, clots, and other fun stuff. I have always been natural blonde an now my hair is more of a brown. It seems I have read something about this but am not sure.
Also, to leave a footnote. Don't go to the salon for that new look and tell them you had a hys.. My hairdresser assumed I would be wanting short, short hair to keep me from being so hot and proceeded to cut it 3 inches all over.
I cried all the way home.

Changing Hair Color?

(((Johnna))) I'm so sorry your stylist misunderstood and cut your hair too much!

Actually, if you go to the salon post op, and plan to have color, it is a good idea to tell your colorist. Here's a thread about the way hair colors "take" on recently post op sisters:

post op hair color info

I was light blonde as a child, and my hair started darkening when I was around 20 years old, and would have accelerated during perimenopause except that I had so much gray by that point that I was coloring my hair so I wouldn't have noticed! This is a common phenomenon with blondes. I haven't seen any scientific studies on it yet but I'm guessing that it has to do with falling levels of testosterone. But now you've got my curiosity up, and I'll go searching... if I find an answer I'll post it here OK?

s,
-Linda

So, it's true! Only my hairdresser know for sure!

Linda, girl, you are the best! What is it with me and commercial advertising slogans anyway?

I have been a bottle redhead for years, and I colored Dec 22. By New Year's eve, I noticed all the grays I had just supposedly covered up were visible again and the auburn color was extremely faded. Guess it will have to be done at the salon, but I hate paying $70 for a coloring job.

Changing Hair Color?

Your hair does get darker as you age, just before it turns gray it gets dark. I am not a blonde but my lt.brown roots are much darker then they ever were. My stylist told me this info. Bummer eh? maybe you could go for some highlights to brighten up without dying all your hair.
