Interesting prescriptions, LOL

Hi Sisters!
A few weeks ago, I posted about whether HRT is necessary. Thanks to all who responded -- the verdict is now in, LOL!

I'm 3 1/2 weeks post. op. now and still had minimal menopausal symptoms -- some night sweats and about two hot flashes per day. I called my doctor about HRT and we had a phone conversation about it. Here's his verdict:

Premarin, 2 grams of cream inserted intervaginally once a week.
Evista, 1 pill daily. (This one is described as an "estrogen receptor modulator" used to prevent osteoporosis.)

I just about freaked when he told me that he wanted me to use intervaginal Premarin! Yuck, it would be so much easier to take a pill or slap on a patch! However, good thing I held my tongue because it turned out that if you take Evista, you CANNOT use estrogen pills or patches.

This seems like a good plan for me. My mother has HORRIBLE osteoporosis which puts me at greater risk, so I'm glad my doctor is addressing that problem. Also, I think it's great that I'm only going to use estrogen once per week. I'm not having major symptoms, so that's probably enough to "take the edge off."

I am a bit nervous about inserting this stuff vaginally, but I guess I'll get used to it. I'm going to do the first dose on Saturday since that would be the best day to continue with it. We'll see how it goes!

Keep us posted on how you respond

and I think it is great your doc is responding to all your individual needs so well.

The vag cream isn't that bad. I use mine right before I slip into bed and try to lie down when inserting it because gravity does do what it does. And it is healing my tissues much better than systemic estrogen alone.

Interesting prescriptions, LOL

(((Julie-Anne))) I agree with (((MeDH)))... I had a very good experience with Premarin cream. I had to use it 3x a day though, so it was a little messy (had to wear panty liners... you might not have to). It does work really well when you need it. Hope it helps you!

Interesting prescriptions, LOL

I am very curious to see if you notice a strong odor with the premarin cream. I had to switch to the estrace cream. Initially, the premarin cream really "woke" things up if you know what I mean! But then it died down and now I jsut got the testosterone cream. Let me know, Joeanne

Interesting prescriptions, LOL

Hi Ladies!
Thanks for the encouragement and advice!

LOL, today was the day for the first insertion. Since I'm only using it once a week, Saturday makes the most sense. Soooo, I got everything ready and figured it would be best to do it after a shower. I was nervous since I'm only 3 1/2 weeks post. op. and I didn't think I was supposed to put anything in the vagina!

Anyhoo, I finished my shower, stepped out of the tub and looked down for some reason. Lo and behold, there were sutures floating around and some of them had some blood on them. Eeeewwww!!! I didn't know if it was too smart to insert hormones at that moment, so I immediately went to hyster-sisters chat and asked for advice, LOL! The sisters calmed me down and I waited a few hours and decided to insert the cream.

GOSH, IT WAS EASY!!!! I didn't even feel it going in!! I took your advice and remained lying down for about a half-hour so none of it would run out. Everything went fine and I'm so relieved!! I haven't noticed any sort of odor, Joeanna, but maybe that's because it was the first application.

Well, now I guess I'll see if the night sweats go away!!!
