7 months post TAH_BSO no HRT

Hello all you LIW!
7 months post from a TAH-BSO and no HRT. 35 years old. Feeling terrific! It's so nice to be pain free and no more messy periods! I feel better than I did 10 years ago! I do still get tired at times, but I know that will pass. And yes, I still have swelly belly but have decided that I really don't care! I feel good and if the belly is a result of that, so be it. What have I learned in the last 7 months??

My family IS capable of looking after themselves.

I matter and my needs matter.

Stress is a waste of energy so I monitor my reaction to stress and try to be more positive.

The house does not always have to look perfect.

14 year olds CAN clean up after themselves.

I AM WORTH TAKING TIME EVERYDAY FOR MYSELF!

Life is good after a hyst! Take the time to pamper yourselves during your recovery. Don't overdo. Realize how special you are and make others realize it as well!

Good Luck and Happy Recovery!

Hi, Tracy, thanks for the positive feedback. We do tend to let yourselves get lost in the shuffle sometimes, don't we? I had a tah/bso 5 months ago and am feeling pretty good too. Am also learning to love that swelly belly So remember all LIW's , there IS life after a hyst! Actually a pretty good life!

Hi Tracy,

Your post is inspiring, especially the HRT free part. I had surgery the same time as you and I feel great as well. I'm on Hrt and my doctor insists I wouldn't feel good without it, but when I read posts like yours I wonder. Keep up the good work!!

Hi Tracy, glad to hear that you are doing so well. This gives me more positive to put towards my surgery decision. I am just waiting for a surgery date and then off to the Castle I will go. Thanks for sharing this great news with us.

Tracy, I have been spying on you ladies in the no-HRT board and looking back over the past year's worth of posts from all of the women there. I am facing NO HRT and am inspired by you and the other ladies who have done it and have no regrets! Thank you tons for posting here wtih some inspiration. I think a lot of us are having trouble focusing on the good things in our future with the worries of the present in the forefront, ya know?

I appreciate your posts!

Hi Tracy,

I've been wondering how my Hysterbuddy was doing. Thanks for the update.

Good to know that I'm not the only one who is still plagued with swelly belly! It's been bad this weekend, cause I've been helping my mom move and carrying heavy boxes and stuff. (Dummy me, I pushed a grandfather clock all the way across the carpeted floor by putting my tummy against it - OUCH!!! Can you say major !)

It's amazing what you learn after going through this surgery. Sounds like you're doing well and taking time for you.

Best wishes and s from your Hysterbuddy!!

Thank You!

I am having TAH/BSO on Jan. 31st (my choice to be aggressive CINIII/CIS). I am also 35 and already told my GYN that I want to try without HRT/ERT. He said we will work on that one week post op. What he doesn't realize is that I will call the shots on that!
I am glad that you posted today, I just went to my sisters house and she sort of p-ssed me off. She said I don't know how you can decide to have them do that and have to deal with menopause. She said it kind of snotty. I thought, who are you, you have not even attempted to help me with this decision. So when I came home, I was second-guessing myself a little.
Then I read your post. I know I am making the right decision and I think that a positive attitude is key.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Kathy.

Good to see you Hysterbuddy! I haven't seen you around much lately. How are you? Yeah, the swelly belly thing is an annoyance but I sure do feel better!!!

Hope all is well with you!

Kathy,
No one who hasn't been there can understand what you are going through. Only you can make decisions that are right for you. I don't want to mislead you as far as menopause symptoms go. I DID have them. Night sweats <a few days> and hot flashes <a few months> anxiety<which I had about 3-4 months post and lasted about a month>, mood swings <which my family has tolerated well!> Insomnia< which I still take a supplement for>. Things do get better over time. I used black cohosh under the advice of my DR for about 3 months. I do use progesterone cream every night and a small dab of vaginal estrace cream almost every day. I do still have swelly belly. No big deal for me but some women are very upset by this. And I do get tired more easily, but that is getting better as well. I have learned that stress is the enemy! LOL So I try to react calmly to things.

Do what you FEEL is right for you and RESEARCH! Make informed choices and remember to leave the door open for trying new things. Some women can't go without HRT. I'm very thankful I am not one of them!

Thank you for responding.
I am sure it will not be a breeze getting through this and I have already met with an RN practicing alternative medicine to help me with symptoms that may arise after surgery. (although I have alot of faith in my GYN, I am not certain of dealing with the hormone issues with him)
My RN said that a few weeks after surgery, if I need to, we will perform saliva hormone testing as it is more effective than bloodwork to get a true picture.
Thanks again
