weight issues?
hi i guess this is a hot topic, but i'm just curious, and thought i'd do a poll on who gained weight after a hysterectomy? i am having mine in a few weeks, keeping my ovaries and hoping it will make a difference with weight gain/loss??
oh please ladies.. give me some good news.
i hear different stories as to "why" ppl gain, some say its inevitable after surgery, some say its the hrt's(which i won't need) so.. if you will.. tell me your experience and if you kept ovaries or not..
thanks!

weight issues?
Hi Angel!
I had ovaries removed and really did not gain a lot of weight. Maybe 5 pounds. Initially, you will do little more than rest and drink LOTS of water, take little walks around and rest some more. The lack of activity while recovering could be balanced out by what you eat during recovery. I stuck mostly to fruits, raw vegetables and occasionally the sweets. It also helps to keep the bowels moving, which is a MUST in recovery. Some LOSE weight with the removal of fibroids, enlarged uterus, etc.
I don't necessarily think taking HRT relates to weight gain... at least, it hasn't affected ME in that way.
Once your fully recovered and healed, you can worry about any weight gain at that time. The most important thing for you to concentrate on, post op, is recovery. Take the time you need to heal right the first time. One step at a time, it will all be just fine.

weight issues?
I'm actually pretty close to the same weight (even down a pound or two). I guess my suggestion is 1) drink lots of water; 2) don't let a down day or two make you indulge in too much or other sweets ; 3) don't worry about it too much.
IMHO it's mostly dependent on your metabolism and you'll be able to work off any extra few that might come on down the road after you are all recovered.

I've lost weight
It can be done! I'm almost 6mos post op and I've lost 36 pounds. This surgery caused me to make lots of healthy life style changes including walking 1-2 miles every day. I'm using vivelle dot and progesterone cream. Best of luck to ya!
