endometriosis

I had a lot of endo but it wasn't discovered until my surgery.......although I had suspected it for a long time.
I had a full hysterectomy, both ovaries removed. It is not always the case to have both ovaries removed because of endo, a lot of docs will tell you that they will leave them if they look healthy or remove them if necessary, a decision they make at surgery with your ok ahead of time. My doc told me ahead of time that that was what she would do but chances are she would have to remove them........and she was right.

I've been on Premarin since my surgery and I do great on it. But there are lots of other options available and it's hard to tell you what the hrt is like because we're all different and what works for some does not work for others............some women get lucky and find what works for them with their first prescription and others have to work a little harder at getting it "right".

I was 45 when I had my hyst........will be 48 in a couple of weeks. I can tell you that before my hyst, my period every month was a painful experience (I also had a cyst on my left ovary) and all that pain and discomfort is completely GONE!!

Have you done a search here on the sight about endo...........you'll find lots and lots of posts about it.
Good luck to you!
Ann

endo and ovaries

I had a LAVH on 11/25 for 15 years of endo, infertility and adnomyosis. My dr. did not recommend both ovaries out, but the dr. that did my 2nd opinion said take them both. I was very uneasy about that part. I am 36 and have been through "chemical menopause" 12 years ago taking a drug for endometriosis. (It was hell!!!! But, I think it helped.... I was fortunate enough to have 2 healthy kids!) I went back to my dr. and talked about my concern with HRT and removing both ovaries at such a young age. My dr. suggested we take the one that always gives me the trouble and leave the other. I liked that idea better. My thought is even if I have to go back in and take the left one in a few years, that was a few years I still had my own hormones. I seem to be doing fine. I know the thought behind taking both out is that the estrogen that effects the endo will be gone, thus allowing the endo to shrink, shrivel and go away. I guess alot depends how your endo is effecting you. Once my uterus was gone, most of my problems went away. My worst problem was the pain and incessant bleeding from the adnomyosis. I feel pretty good at almost 8 weeks post op-- there has been a huge difference in the last 2 weeks. It really takes a good 6 weeks to be feeling pretty good. Best wishes- hope this info helps.

endometriosis

Hi, I have endo too and I am waiting on a date for my TAH with removal of both ovaries. I am 34 and have been thru 3 lap surgeries, infertility, ectopic pregnancy and have been blessed with 2 wonderful children. I am over all these tests and decided I wanted a hysterectomy. My dr showed me the last lap surgery results from Dec 2001 and both of my ovaries are awful looking, so my choice was made really quick. It is totally up to you what you want. I would discuss this with your dr and see what he suggests, a lot of gyn's like to leave an ovary if it is healthy to keep from going thru surgical menopause and hrt before its time. I was told, and this may just be my drs opinion, that with endo, there is a slight chance it may appear in the saved ovary later. I hope that you find your answer and GOOD LUCK on your surgery. I will one day have my date and be nervous as the dickens too.

endometriosis

I'm 35 and I also have endo and am awaiting a date for surgery. I've been on Lupron since November, and my doc is keeping me on it until surgery. He said that he will probably start me on HRT 6 weeks after surgery. If I do have surgery when he said it would probably take place, late March/early April, I will have been hormone free for about 6 months! Actually, it hasn't been all that bad, even the hot flashes aren't that bad when the wind chill is below zero!

When I do have surgery, everything goes tho! I've already had my right ovary removed 2 years ago by the same doc, due to reccurring cysts (which I had know about since I was 18 and the doc then said they were normal, grrrrr). This site has been wonderful and I would reccomend it to anyone who is going thru this. I even share stuff that other ladies have posted with my DH, so that he can also benifit from knowing what to expect when surgery happens.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Jen
(sorry if this rambled on, just had to take pain meds as the Lupron isn't working too well sometimes to keep the pain away, grrr)

endometriosis

Tomorrow is my day. YUCK. I will have a TAH/BSO. Both ovaries out. Have suffered from Endo for about 20 yrs. Chocolate cysts on both ovaries, that is why DR is taking it all out. I'm 38 and have not been blessed with a biological child. We do have an adopted son. DR said he might start me on HRT after 2 weeks. I'm nervous about all of this too.

I, at times, am afriad I will eventually have to go back in to have the ovaries removed. Guess we will have to wait and see.

endometriosis

Hi! I have endo too. Doc found it on diagnostic lap a year ago and wants to do another of the same. My endo is on my right ovary and hurts constantly for over a year. He told me to be prepared to lose that ovary on the next laparoscopy next month. This is something I really do not understand myself. I had another doc tell me that it is the ovaries that actually make the endometriosis grow, so that is probably the reason why they advised you to get them both out. This is the only sure way to kill off the endo. WIthout the ovaries there and the menstrual cycle, the endo (any that remains undiscovered) should die off with time. Good luck to you! I wish my doc would take everything out of me at this point. I am 29 and my family is complete, but he is very conservative. God bless, Marni
