I can't sleep!

I am 4 weeks post op and am really having trouble sleeping. I feel great except for that. I cannot take HRT as I had breast cancer last year. I do get hot flashes/night sweats and I think that's what keeps me from sleeping. Any suggestions??? I have my post op appt tomorrow. I want to see when I can start exercising. I have put on weight and feel so out of shape. I starting walking everyday about a week ago. I don't walk as fast or as far as I did before the surgery. I can't fit into any of my clothes. My tummy seems to have gone down quit a bit since the surgery but everything is still so tight. I would appreciate any input on the lack of sleep issue. Thanks!!!

Me too

It has been two and a half weeks since my TAH and I have problems sleeping at night too. I can't even fall asleep!! AUGH! I know that I am not having anxiety or depression issues. Everything is going quite well except for sleep issues.

I hope we can get some feedback!

Sleepless in Florida

I'm 4 wks out, still having sweaty nights although now I only change my undies. I cannot seem to even fall asleep before 1:30am ( my normal time is 12:30 so it's not too far off) and have horrid dreams. Reminds me of postpartum style. The days, after getting up at 7:30 to get kids off to schoool, I cannot fall back asleep till 9 ish and sleep till noon. Or else, stay up and nap later. Caffiene seems to have Lost it's effect on me totally.
I know some of the night stuff is hormones, I think by now all the anesthesia and codiene is over with. I'm taking BCP continuous and still ahve the ovaries, but they probably are in shock.
I might try warm milk! And will talk with DR at 6 wk checkup.

I can't sleep!

Hi kodonnell

I too had trouble sleeping after my hyster, at about 4 weeks, figured it was due to HRT adjustments. I had my overies out and am on Premarin. Let it go for months till I was exhaused. Not good my primary doc said. He gave me ambien, which I loved - just use it wisely if you ask for it - it can become pyscogolically addicting if used for more than a few days at a time.

Have you asked your doc for help? Talk to him/her. Some other things ladies have tried are melatonin with a magnesium tab about an hour before sleep. Works great for some. Also others take benedryl tabs. But with you hx, please please talk to you doc first. His advice is always the first to be considered.

Best Wishes in sleepdom -
Melissa

P.S. after I got off the ambien - I still have trouble, but is much better than a year ago.

I can't sleep!

I too had trouble sleeping until about 4 weeks post-op when I was up and doing more. I think maybe when you are healed and can get on a regular schedule again, sleep will come. If not, I'd let the doctor know.
