Pre-Op Routine???

I had my pre-op appointment last Thursday and the dr said nothing about an enema or any variation thereof. When I spoke to a friend of mine today she asked me if I had to drink something to "clean me out" the night before the surgery, I told her no, and she said that the reason they do it is because of the potential for contamination if the dr should nick the intestine during surgery. Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject?

Pre-Op Routine???

Hi, I didn't have to do any bowel prep at home either. The morning of my surgery I got a fleet enema in the hospital ( it really wasn't bad). Each dr and person is different - what works best for one isn't necessarily best for all. I think that you should follow your dr's orders. He/she know you best.
Best wishes. S

Pre-Op Routine???

I didn't have to do any type of enema or bowel prep either.

Different doctors have different pre-op requirements and sometimes it may depend on the procedure you are having as well.

Just thank your lucky stars that you didn't have to do it.

Best wishes and s,

Lisa

Pre-Op Routine???

Hi DFS,

Your surgery is the same day as mine! My doc is letting me give myself a Fleet's enema at home before I go to the hospital. I also have to do a betadyne douche...ugh! Guess it helps clean out any bacteria in the vagina...I'm having a TAH/BSO for large fibroid.

Best wishes to you; I hope everything will go smoothly for you; keep us posted ok?

Blessings,
Debby

Pre-Op Routine???

My doctor didn't tell me to do anything except have lab work done the day before, and of course NPO (oops, nurse talk for nothing by mouth) after midnight. Luckily, I go in at 6 AM....not even enough time to get a caffeine headache before they start on me!
