Dizziness and the blahs-any advice?

Hello! I've been reading everything I can to prepare for my upcoming LAVH (I think I have that right) but need some info on these dizzy spells and the fatigue. Is this something that most people have before the procedure? I am taking iron and continue to take Xovia to keep the flow to a minimum but am just exhausted.

I do need to keep working until Friday before the surgery and can't picture how I'll make it that long.

Any dietary advice that may prop me up is welcome. If you have had or are having the same problems, please let me know. I'm getting worried.

Many thanks,

Carol

Dizziness and the blahs-any advice?

Hi Carol

Call your DR about the dizzy spells.

My DR told me to take my iron pills with a glass of orange juice, the vitamin C aids in the absorption of the iron. Liver is a good source of iron, also other red meats, and green leafy veggies.

For the fatigue the best advice is get as much rest as you can. If you need a nap when you get home from work, take one. If you fall asleep at 8PM, so what? Your body knows it needs more rest. Don't stress about getting your house in order before surgery, it will be there when you're feeling better and have been cleared to resume normal activities.

Best wishes, and let us know what your DR says about the dizzy spells.

Ditto and

Taking iron within 1 hr. of consuming dairy actually can cause it to be taken from the body. It is important to call your Dr. because
dizziness can come from low iron. Hope things get better.

I was dizzy too

I had two bouts with dizziness the week before my LAVH/BSO--one lasted an hour, the other about seven hours; however, they passed. While I had a high count, I was advised to take iron regardless. My surgery was a week ago tomorrow--and I'm doing better than expected. I wonder if my dizziness wasn't part of anxiety....

Best Wishes to you!

Dr Appt Tomorrow

Thanks so much for the advice. I'll be seeing my primary tomorrow to have my blood count and blood pressure checked. She's also doing a regular exam to be sure that it's not a sinus infection or inner ear issue. It's been nearly a week and even laying down doesn't relieve the foggy sensation.

Hanging on...

Dizziness and the blahs-any advice?

When in hospital, I had dizzy spells the day after surgery which the doctor was concerned because of blood loss at surgery. They gave me antivert (a motion sickness pill) every four hours I believe and it was gone by the time I left the hospital.
You might also have the doctor check for vertigo, the symptoms are about the same but more devastating as you can hardly lift your head from the pillow. That is suppose to have something to do with the inner ear.
Hope this helps.

dizzy too!

Hi,

My surgery (LAVH, possibly TAH) is on Feb 12th and for the past few days I have not been able to get it off my mind. I suffer from anxiety attacks and they have been really bad this past week. For a couple of days now I have been dizzy. I hope it's just the anxiety! Let me know what your doc says!

Dizzy

Hi, Tammy. I've been working to control anxiety with Paxil for about 2 years. Perhaps the anxiety could be contributing to the dizziness?

I saw my primary this week and she could not pinpoint anything specific, except low blood pressure, probable anemia and stress.
Another possibility is that there is some sinus pressure -tho no infection, so she gave me a nasal steroid to calm the swelling.

If the dizziness is still with you, you should call your Dr - even just to rule out anything else.

Feel free to send me a PM, if you want to talk more. I have a few more weeks before the procedure but know that the stress and anxiety is running high here.

So many HSs have said that the waiting is the hardest part. Know that we are all sending calming, positive thoughts your way.

Is there something that you can do just for you today?

Will be thinking of you.

Carol
